Object: Middle School in Maine to Provide Students With Contraceptives
A Middle School in Maine has voted to Provide 11 year old Students
With Contraceptives. Many people gave their opinion on what they
thought about this issue, and here is mine:
Why is sex made out to be a bad thing in this society? While sex is
not something most 11 year olds engage in, why is it a bad thing or a
big deal if they do? All it is is naked hugging, french kissing, and
coitus. It really is not a big deal. It only seems to be a big deal
when it is hidden or repressed. If two forms of birth control are
used, sex is as safe as abstinence. Two forms of birth control used
together make sex safer than either a vasectomy or a tubal ligation.
It seems intelligent to educate children early on the potential
dangers of unsafe sex, and to make safe sex options available for
them. In elementary school and jr. high school I had friends who had
sex as young as 12 and engaged in sexual activity as young as 10 and
even 9. I do not think this is a bad thing. In 5th and 6th grade in
elementary school, many people had loving boyfriends and girlfriends,
many people french kissed, engaged in such light sexual activity etc.,
and these are positive experiences which we can remember happily for
the rest of our lives. If society makes sex out to be some big bad
deal, then a youth who engages in it might think that they are
supposed to be traumatized. The only thing that makes a difference is
if the child is making a free choice to engage in whatever activity
they engage in. Obviously rape is assault, but a far different act
from consensual sexual activity, just as it is for adults. Consensual
sexual activity is a positive thing which can further relationships,
and relationships are part of the whole reason for being on this
earth. Sex is a necessary activity to one's health and happiness. To
be completely healthy you need to have love and sex. What do you
expect teenagers to do? To go without sex for 4 years? Would you
want to go without sex for 4 years of your adult life? And what are
they to do then? Masturbate? Masturbation is usually bad sex, and
thus unhealthy. America needs to embrace sex, and choose a sex
positive culture.

Never really could understand that - we are all the result of sex - every
single one of us !
Does anyone ever think about that ?
I never cease to be amazed at the number of things the clergy latch on to in
order to propagate their own particular brand of belief.
