The over named Minutemen (just ask their wives) were alleged to have large
stores of guns and ammo hidden in the hills around Paradise, CA during the
height of The John Birch Society's day. http://www.jbs.org/
Life magazine did an entire article on the town. Allegedly they were going
to do a feature with several small towns but realized what a gold mine of
wacko conservatives they found in Paradise.
There was a hugely popular teacher there, the kids loved her and she made
them think. The son of a Bircher went into class with a hollowed out book
with a tape recorder in it to record her subversive comments.

Interesting. I've never visited the JB web site though it looks like
I should just to see what they're up to today. Looks like it's the
same stuff as years ago.

Right, 'cause, you know, when people say things, they *should* be
smacked down hard by people who don't like what they're saying.
It would make for a much quieter country if this rule were made law and
enforced. Then, when someone says, for instance, "I'm glad. Serves
the communist ***** right," someone would be legally obliged to
jack him up but good. Or, perhaps, the fella would just keep his *own*
damn mouth shut and not pretend that he knows so much about right and
wrong, and the service of same.
