Moore's Monument = False Idol |
Hi folks,
My girlfriend who is Christian asked me what I thought she thought about
it.
I fumbled around for a bit and said that I thought she agreed with the
suspension of Moore and removal of the monument. It was mostly a good
guess.
As usual, she impressed me with her wisdom. Essentially the monument is a
false idol. The church she attends sticks to the bible. (Church of
Christ) At her church, they do not celebrate Christmas or Easter or any
of that stuff that we know is absolutely made up. (both hi-jacked pagan
traditions) If she's going to believe in God or Jesus, at least she does
it right.
I'm an atheist of course.
What does the bible say about false idols? (rhetorical statement)
.

Now you've gotten me interested. How does such an arrangement work?

My ex wife attended the church of christ. Let's just say the arrangement
didn't work at all.

I think there is a Church of Christ, Scientist, which is Christian Science
and Church of Christ, period, two very different religions.
My ex wife attended the church of christ. Let's just say the arrangement
didn't work at all.

Now you've gotten me interested. Religion is a personal matter, and you
two are sharing your personal lives... how does such an arrangement work
out? Is she more liberal in her religious beliefs than her church peers?

We're just dating. We are very good friends, but both realize there's
not enough there for it to be permanent. We both wish we could
fall in love with the other, but it's just not so. Probably the biggest
problem is our ages. She's 6 1/2 years older than me. I have one daughter
(7 years old) and may want another child. She has two boys (one teen and
one pre-teen) and is nearing menopause. She's farther along in her life
than I care to be.
She does have an issue with me being atheist. (not long ago, I came out)
She has a bit of a hard time with it. I think the fact that her church
discards pretty much all of the crap is what helps. She's a Christian,
not a religious freak like so many.
I was thinking about our religious differences and basically came to the
realization that it gives us yet one more thing to talk about.
Differences handled in an honest and respectful manner are good.
She is not more liberal than her church. I haven't been there, but they
stick to the bible. (I guess as much as anyone can, given its
inconsistencies.) Her church is serious. If memory serves, they ran a
woman out who was an open adulterer or something like that who would not
stop. They even went to court over it and won.
