An online petition drive has been launched by a group calling itself
Democrats United Against Michael Moore.
According to organizer David Prince, the effort is to "implore the
Democrat leadership to distance itself from Michael Moore and his
practices."
Prince says the organization, based in North Hollywood, Calif.,
consists of 23 people who "actively promote the petition through a
multitude of online channels and traditional media."
The group's online petition includes a link where party members can
contact the Democratic National Committee. They are instructed to copy
and paste the petition into their messages to party leadership.
"We Democrats and other supporters of John Kerry for president
petition the Democratic National Committee to forthwith disassociate
itself from filmmaker Michael Moore and reject his incendiary,
propagandistic methods," begins the petition. "It is our steadfast
belief that Michael Moore has violated the public trust by presenting
misrepresentation, factual inaccuracy and dramatic re-creation as
truth in his films. He has usurped time-honored ethics of journalism,
to which documentarians are bound, and has employed classic techniques
of deception cognate to totalitarian propaganda."
Moore's popular documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" skewers President Bush
and serves, some say, as a movie-length advertisement for Kerry.
Says the petition: "We must not allow our vehement opposition to
President Bush and his policies to blind us from truth. We must not
abandon reason in favor of political expediency. On the contrary, we
must march forward on the foundation of virtue, confident that truth
is our greatest weapon."
The group's site blames Moore on Kerry's failure to best Bush in
opinion polls despite the president's historically low approval
rating.
Says the site: "No doubt the slogan passed around Republican National
Headquarters is soon to be, 'It's Michael Moore, stupid!' The
Republicans, in particular conservative media, have seized upon
Moore's extremism as a rallying cry. Will it be to anyone's surprise
when the images of Michael Moore sitting next to Jimmy Carter at the
DNC begin to appear in Bush ads?"
As if to prove its Democratic credentials, the site compares popular
figures of the right with Moore:
"There is no question that one could make a similar argument against
conservative demagogues like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter," the site
says. "They, too, only serve to denigrate the political process by
promulgating distortions and preying on the prejudices of the
electorate.
"However, we are Democrats and other supporters of John Kerry for
president. Our exclusive concern with this petition is the direction
being taken by our party and our candidates, not with what are [sic]
opponents are doing or have done. Simply because our opponents may
embrace this type of demogoguery does not justify our doing the same.
We will not win the battle of ideology by lowering ourselves to such
standards, but by transcending them. We must appeal to a higher
principle."
Prince estimates that thousands of petitions have been sent to the
Democratic National Committee, but, he tells WND, "we have had no
formal acknowledgement yet from the DNC."
Jano Cabrera, communications director of the DNC, said he was unaware
of the group's campaign. "Our position on Michael Moore's films has
always been the same," he told WND, "namely that … people should go
and watch ['Fahrenheit 9/11'] and make up their own minds on it."
Added Cabrera, "With the exception of one person, namely John Kerry,
we don't take positions on individuals."

It's Hanoi John Kerry!
Well ... the battle now seems to be joined. The most liberal Senator
in the United States Senate, the most liberal Senator from
Massachusetts, is going to be the Democratic nominee. Today John
Edwards will drop out of the race for the Democratic nomination. He
will then wait patiently for the call from Kerry to be his
vice-Presidential nominee. Never, in modern history, have the
Democrats crowned their prince this early in an open primary season.
This campaign has a long way to go ... and many things will become
known about John Kerry that aren't known right now. Perhaps, though,
you would like to respond to just a few thoughts:
The choice here is going to be crystal clear. It's a choice between a
man who believes in the sovereignty of the United States, and a man
who seeks to subordinate the sovereignty of the United States to the
authority of the United Nations. It will be a choice between a man
who wants to treat Islamic terrorism as a law enforcement problem, and
one who wants to treat it as a war. A choice between a man who wants
to arrest Islamic terrorists and send them before international courts
for trial, and a man who wants to send the U.S. Marines to find these
terrorists and kill them. We'll have a choice between a man who
respects the men and women of our armed forces, and a man who called
them killers and rapists even while they were still dying
in the jungles of Vietnam.
John Kerry seems to think that his four months of service in Vietnam
inoculates him against any criticism of his defense-related voting
record during his 19 years in the U.S. Senate. John Kerry will say
that anyone who criticizes that voting record is attacking his
patriotism. Only the type of mind that would vote for a Democrat
would believe that.
Democrats ran to the polls and voted for Kerry largely for one reason
and one reason only: because they hate Bush. Propelled solely by this
hatred, they probably haven't stopped for just a minute to consider
exactly what they are voting for. They got what they wanted, a
front-loaded primary process where the nominee was chosen in six
weeks. Now they can "get Bush." The only problem? Most Democrats have
no idea what they voted for. We get to spend the next 8 months
reminding them.
Do they know that John Kerry considers the war on terror a mistake? Do
they realize that he believes terrorism is "a law enforcement
problem?" Are they aware that Kerry has flip-flopped on every major
issue? Is their hatred of Bush so all-consuming that they are blind to
the issues the country faces? Do they realize John Kerry would raise
their taxes? Increase the deficit? Probably not. It's all about hating
Bush. Facts don't matter and neither does the future of the country.
It's all emotionally-based.
But that's why we call them liberals.
With the nominee no longer uncertain, it will be interesting to see if
the media picks apart Kerry's record. He has 19 years worth of votes
to explain. And what about all of the campaign contributions? We've
already had a few of those scandals surface. They seemed to have been
swept under the rug and explained away by the Vietnam magic wand.
That's what Kerry does if you back him into a corner on an issue, he
reminds you of his service in Vietnam.

those words at the top of the Nuze on November 3rd you will know that
our Republic is in one helluva mess.
It's going to be an incredible eight months. I think I'll go ahead
and cancel my summer vacation now.

to detail specific plans for handling the economy, Iraq and the war on
terrorism when he addresses the Democratic National Convention and a
nationally televised audience on Thursday, according to a new
Washington Post-ABC News poll. The survey suggests that the stakes for
Kerry and the Democrats as they began their convention in Boston could
not be higher. In barely a month, Kerry has lost ground to President
Bush on every top voting issue in this year's election. A growing
proportion of voters say Bush and not Kerry is the candidate who most
closely shares their values, and four in 10 believe the Democrat is
"too liberal." Bush has even narrowed the gap on which candidate
better understands their problems, an area in which Kerry has led.
