The columnist spins it that the reason is only that the violence is down.
But the violence has ebbed and flowed before without taking Iraq off the
front pages. No, there has been real progress in Iraq, including the
political kind that makes it less likely that the Democrats will have an
issue to run on, and so they're positioning themselves to either try to
take credit or to say that they were for it until they were against it but
now they're for it again.
