Swiss Snow Makes 50-year Record
Thursday, November 15th, 2007
Swiss snow makes 50-year recordSwiss ski resorts are expecting a record
season after promising early snowfall, it has been reported.
Ski break spots including Davos, St Antonien and Braunwald have
experienced exceptionally strong snowfall for so early in the season,
swissinfo has reported.
Last weekend, some 62 cm of the white stuff fell in the eastern resort
of Davos, while St Antonien received 64 cm and Braunwald got 72 cm of
snow on Sunday, states national weather service MeteoSwiss.
According to the report, Switzerland has not received such a strong
start to its winter ski season since 1952, with the amount of snow being
swept to the southern areas by the wind cited as a particularly
interesting feature of the weather.
Resorts are said to be anticipating a busy ski season, with many
readying themselves for a rush of bookings as reports of the good
weather disseminate.
The Ski Club of Great Britain described the prospects for Verbier, Saas
Fee and Engelberg as "promising" last week.

Fred -- you have to be fucking kidding me. Nothing so thoroughly
removes credibility as confusing weather with climate. Certainly,
there will be many, many, many instances when it snows -- but the
overall temperature of the Earth is rising.

Fred, do you not understand that increase *snowfall* does not tell you
things are colder? More snow means things are *wetter*. Wetter, in
fact, suggests that it is warmer somewhere else. I made a guess, which
I have checked, that those locations are in the southern part of
Switzerland. As it happens they are pretty close together in the South
Eastern part of the country. Quite possibly the increased snowfall is
due to the warming of the Med. But increased snow and increase warming
leads to shrinking glaciers. You really need to learn something about
this rather than just reading right-wing blogs.

The AP article said nothing about global warming. You had to apply
your errors regarding climate to the story. That, I guess, came from
the blogs.
BTW, I notice that you ignore the explanatory aspect of my post. Care
to do that? Again: more snow means wetter, not colder. Wetter tends to
mean warmer and those locations are all on the SE part of Switzerland
and likely are getting more snow because of the warmer Med. How about
that? Shall we discuss this or not?

Swiss Snow Makes 50-year Record

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Swiss snow makes 50-year recordSwiss ski resorts are expecting a
record season after promising early snowfall, it has been
reported.

Your personal, and likely deliberate, ignorance of global climate
change and its implications is a personal issue and does not
reflect on reality.

Reality does not reflect your personal and likely deliberate
ignorance about global warming.

Nice try, too bad though.

Fred, do you not understand that increase *snowfall* does not tell
you things are colder? More snow means things are *wetter*. Wetter,
in fact, suggests that it is warmer somewhere else. I made a guess,
which I have checked, that those locations are in the southern part
of Switzerland. As it happens they are pretty close together in the
South Eastern part of the country. Quite possibly the increased
snowfall is due to the warming of the Med. But increased snow and
increase warming leads to shrinking glaciers. You really need to
learn something about this rather than just reading right-wing
blogs.

Now the AP is a right-wing blog?

The AP article said nothing about global warming. You had to apply
your errors regarding climate to the story. That, I guess, came from
the blogs.

You guess. Are you also guessing that increased snowfall means "wetter"
and not "colder" in this particular case?

BTW, I notice that you ignore the explanatory aspect of my post. Care
to do that? Again: more snow means wetter, not colder. Wetter tends to
mean warmer and those locations are all on the SE part of Switzerland
and likely are getting more snow because of the warmer Med. How about
that? Shall we discuss this or not?

I'd rather keep you guessing.

I know that more snowfall means warmer. Two reason: one when it is too
cold it does not snow. Second, warmer oceans means more evaporation
and so more water to fall.

BTW, I notice that you ignore the explanatory aspect of my post. Care

How dogmatic of you. Seriously: you keep avoiding discussing the
science here, instead you simply assert it is religion. But you
somehow don't seem to consider the basics of climate or weather, you
don't seem to consider local vs. global, and you don't seem to
consider time scale. Lots of big snowfalls in one area of Switzerland
does not at all refute global warming, not even a little.

two, science doesn't call skeptics "deniers"; three, science doesn't
operate on "consensus".

Sigh. One more time just for you. Some of these links are to popular

dispute that there is in fact a "consensus" of opinion within the

Swiss Snow Makes 50-year Record

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Swiss snow makes 50-year recordSwiss ski resorts are expecting a
record season after promising early snowfall, it has been
reported.

Your personal, and likely deliberate, ignorance of global
climate change and its implications is a personal issue and does
not reflect on reality.

Reality does not reflect your personal and likely deliberate
ignorance about global warming.

Nice try, too bad though.

Meanwhile you post stories from last spring to rebut something
from this week?

Fred, do you not understand that increase *snowfall* does not tell
you things are colder? More snow means things are *wetter*.
Wetter, in fact, suggests that it is warmer somewhere else. I made
a guess, which I have checked, that those locations are in the
southern part of Switzerland. As it happens they are pretty close
together in the South Eastern part of the country. Quite possibly
the increased snowfall is due to the warming of the Med. But
increased snow and increase warming leads to shrinking glaciers.
You really need to learn something about this rather than just
reading right-wing blogs.

Now the AP is a right-wing blog?

The AP article said nothing about global warming. You had to apply
your errors regarding climate to the story. That, I guess, came from
the blogs.

You guess. Are you also guessing that increased snowfall means
"wetter" and not "colder" in this particular case?

I know that more snowfall means warmer. Two reason: one when it is too
cold it does not snow. Second, warmer oceans means more evaporation
and so more water to fall.

BTW, I notice that you ignore the explanatory aspect of my post.
Care to do that? Again: more snow means wetter, not colder. Wetter
tends to mean warmer and those locations are all on the SE part of
Switzerland and likely are getting more snow because of the warmer
Med. How about that? Shall we discuss this or not?

I'd rather keep you guessing.

How dogmatic of you. Seriously: you keep avoiding discussing the
science here, instead you simply assert it is religion.

I have irrefutable evidence that it is religion. Three reasons: one,
science doesn't have dogma, it questions its own conclusions constantly;

Which is why climatology papers are peer-reviewed. I know that the
administration toss out the science stuff, but you don't have to. For
some reason, though, you keep going to things like AP rather than the
peer-reviewed press. And you don't even go to science reports, you
take some weather report and misinterpret it.

two, science doesn't call skeptics "deniers";

So "evolution denier" is a term that somehow makes evolution a
religion.

three, science doesn't
operate on "consensus".

Sure it does. We go to biologists for information about biology and we
take the consensus view as the current best available answer. There
might be some disagreement and it is certainly reasonable to examine
the evidence and rational, but the best current answer is the
consensus.
And, somehow, you again failed to discuss how more snow means moisture
and that means warming elsewhere. And that snow falling means it is
warm enough for snow, when it is cold it does not snow.

I have irrefutable evidence that it is religion. Three reasons: one,
science doesn't have dogma, it questions its own conclusions
constantly;

Which is why climatology papers are peer-reviewed.

Which matters not a whit when the peer-review process becomes
politicized and polices papers for adherence to the dogma.

I know that the
administration toss out the science stuff, but you don't have to. For
some reason, though, you keep going to things like AP rather than the
peer-reviewed press. And you don't even go to science reports, you
take some weather report and misinterpret it.

two, science doesn't call skeptics "deniers";

So "evolution denier" is a term that somehow makes evolution a
religion.

Yes, if "evolution deniers" were simply dismissed as being "in league
with Big Religion" the way "global warming deniers" are dismissed as
being "in the pay of Big Oil".

three, science doesn't
operate on "consensus".

Sure it does.

No it doesn't. It operates on evidence. So far the evidence in favor of
global warming does not support the need for drastic changes to the
world political economy in order to avert some hypothetical disaster.

We go to biologists for information about biology and we
take the consensus view as the current best available answer. There
might be some disagreement and it is certainly reasonable to examine
the evidence and rational, but the best current answer is the
consensus.

"Consensus answer" is a combination of ad hominem, argument from
authority and bandwagon fallacies.

And, somehow, you again failed to discuss how more snow means moisture
and that means warming elsewhere. And that snow falling means it is
warm enough for snow, when it is cold it does not snow.

Warm enough for snow like is what range of temperatures? When you say
that "when it is cold it does not snow" what temperatures are you
talking about? And where do these resorts fall in those ranges at this
time of year?
You want to discuss the issue, answer those questions.
