You have said your object is to "teach Faith".
Your choice of alt.atheism seems rather quixotic.
What's with this attempt to get chummy.
You might gain respect in this group if you present
an honest, coherent position.

I don't mind asking you the following questions

How old are you ?
I will be celebrating my 11th birthday for the third time this year.
Are you married ?
Bachelor...no one wants me.
Do you have any children ?
None that I know of, as the old joke goes.
How do you get on with your parents ?
Very well.
Do you have brothers and sisters ?
4 brothers and 2 sisters, 13 nieces and nephews and 4 grand nieces.
Were you brought up with a religion ?
We weren't a religious family...didn't go to church except for weddings and
such, but I was raised theistic, was a member of the Uniting Church and had
religious education in school ....in fact I became an atheist sitting in RE
class when I realised I was being lied to.
Do you celebrate Christmas ?
Yes...as a totally secular celebration of family and friends, of the good
things of the year past and hopes for the new year coming. I hijacked
Christmas from the Christians the same way they hijacked it from the pagans.
Do you celebrate Easter ?
No...I celebrate "Life of Brian" Friday...the first great atheist holiday
that I invented several years ago....now celebrated all over the world by
many members of this group.
Do you have a spectator sport ?
No...I hate sport and think that many of the competitive and violent aspects
of the sporting psyche represents the worst of humanity.
Are you a participant in Sport ?
No. When I was younger I was dedicated to martial arts, but since my health
started to deteriorate a few years ago, it's become difficult for me do be
very active.

And what does this have to do with your questions? Maybe it's just a
sign that the younger generation is getting a better education (at least
in the UK - here in the US it hasn't improved much).

"Damian John Paul Brown" asked:
How old are you ?
41
Are you married ?
Divorced
Do you have any children ?
No
How do you get on with your parents ?
My father died several years ago, an event which underlined (as if it
needed it) my essential atheism.
I get on with my Mum fairly well as long as we stay away from the
subject of religion - she was converted to Christianity not long before
my Dad died. I and the rest of the family do not trust the people she
got herself mixed up with and are very wary of their intentions towards
her - we are concerned that they may take advantage of her slowly
increasing dementia and have ensured that we have good arrangements to
prevent her from doing anything like signing away her savings. It's not
that we want her few pounds, both my brother and I have reasonably good
jobs, we just want to be sure that if she needs her savings for anything
(a holiday, a buggy to get her around as her disabilities get worse, a
replacement washing machine or fridge, stuff like that) she can have it.
Do you have brothers and sisters ?
One brother.
Were you brought up with a religion ?
My parents raised me to be a Christian. So obviously that was completely
unsuccessful. It also failed in the case of my brother, who is also an
atheist.
Do you celebrate Christmas ?
I spend Christmas with my mother, but I wouldn't say we celebrate,
exactly. Endure would be nearer the mark.
Do you celebrate Easter ?
No.
Do you have a spectator sport ?
I follow Blackburn Rovers
I suppose somebody has to.
No, I hate watching sport, I can imagine nothing more boring.
Are you a participant in Sport ?
I swim twice weekly for fitness.

Well, we have a start, I must admit I have never been

I do understand your fanatacism, I used to be very

to be a Star Trek fan, you need a vivid imagination
and I suppose to be religious you need probably
a much more vivid imagination

I LOVE B5. I'm slowly collecting it on DVD, which I don't
even do for Trek as my brother beat me to it so I just
nick his instead.

TOS was great, TNG ruled, DS9 rocked, Voyager was so-so,
but I'm not so keen on Enterprise.

Voyager is probably the weakest IMHO, and Enterprise ranks highly with
me. Maybe I am just starved for SciFi series and I rank anything I
have not seen before a bit extra high :)
Time will tell.
I also collect B5, got the three first seasons now. Can't wait for
season 4, which is one of the best IMHO.

TOS was great, TNG ruled, DS9 rocked, Voyager was so-so, but I'm not
so keen on Enterprise.
I've only got the first two so far - I just ordred
Buffy seasons 5 6 and 7, so I'm feeling too poor to
stump up for the rest of B5 just yet!
Agreed on season 4; 5 didn't suck, but it wasn't
nearly as good as 4.

Children. Ugh.
How do you get on with your parents ?
My Dad has died
I get on quite well with my Mum

I get on great with my parents. I went through a thing of not getting on
with my dad but I've since decided my parents are only human and life is
too short not to get on with them.
Do you have brothers and sisters ?
I have 6 sisters
Blimey? Six? I bet they made your life a misery growing up.
I have the one.
Were you brought up with a religion ?
I have always been Catholic
My mum is...hmmm... something verging on agnostic I think. I understand
she gave various religions a try but she is basically a humanist. My dad

Not too fond of all the commercial crap that they've tacked onto it.

Is English not a primary language for you? That _you_ don't mind
asking them would be the default assumption since, you know, you
*asked* them and all. This would, I believe, be true on all _three_
sides of the English-speaking pond (European English, American English

We may mind answering some. Why ask?
The only thing all atheists will have in common is a lack
of belief in the existence of a God or gods. Everything else
will vary about as much as it does in the general populace.

answering.
How old are you ?
37.
Are you married ?
Yes, almost 13 years.
Do you have any children ?
No. Due to cancer/chemotherapy, I can't father children.

Great with my mom, my father and I locked horns over politics, but
everybody agreed about (American) football.
Do you have brothers and sisters ?
1 brother, 1 sister.
Were you brought up with a religion ?
Originally Catholic, left the church when I was eight because it was
clearly BS.

We celebrate "Winter." A celebration of living another year, of our
frineds, and the like.
Do you celebrate Easter ?
Nope.
Do you have a spectator sport ?
Baseball (San Francisco Giants)
Football (San Francisco 49ers)
Are you a participant in Sport ?
When I was younger.

Somebody has to.
I used to like watching them many years ago when they had a superb
winger called Bryan Douglas.
I didn't support them but it meant a good game when they came down my
way.
But that was probably when your father was still in school.
This is of course a transparent attempt to obtain rapport and then use
that rapport inappropriately.
As a Britisher you know that there are three subjects you should not
bring up in company unless you know ythe others well enough to know
how they will react, and that they won't be offended:
Sport, politics and religion.
You remind me of the god-botherer in the model railway/railroad group
(hint: clue to where that was) who came into it and when he thought he
was accepted started preaching and prosetylising. The atheist members
just avoided him. So he raised the subject when they were around, and
we'd make our excuses to leave them together.
Eventually it was the theists who told him to get lost because he was
disrupting the group. Pissing them off just as much. Mainstream
Christians, Mormons, Jews and even Catholics who were in the group to
model trains not to talk religion, and who were just as offended as we
were because he presumed his doctrines to them.
You've said you are on medication for manic depression. I would guess
that they have made you hyper. You need them adjusting.
If it's not too late.
Instead of being medicated which becomes increasingly hard to get off,
try and manage on your own. All it sould take is a little more
self-esteem and a little less in-your-face.
In other words, get laid.
