More rantings from the Family Research Council (I wonder what sort of
"research" they actually do?)
====================================
May 19, 2004
Is the Church Awakening?
Christians from all over the state converged on the Louisiana State Capitol
yesterday, filling it to capacity in support of marriage. Just last week the
Senate there failed by one vote to pass an amendment declaring marriage as
the union of one man and one woman. Yesterday, the same measure passed the
Senate by a vote of 31-4, and a similar measure passed the House by a vote
of 87-11. What changed in the span of one week? Christians became engaged.
Nearly two dozen Louisiana pastors who attended the FRC Pastor's Briefing
last week, went home and preached on the same-sex "marriage" crisis and
called on their members to take action. Combine that with the pastors who
were already active, the work of the Louisiana Family Forum, and then add
the same-sex "marriage" story out of Massachusetts to the mix and you have a
recipe for action.
Out west, churches in Arizona working with the Center for Arizona Policy
turned out an estimated 8,000 people on Monday in 100 degree heat to take a
stand for marriage. Is your church engaged? Join us on Sunday night for a
live nationwide simulcast with Dr. James Dobson, Chuck Colson, Pastor Ted
Haggard, Bishop Wellington Boone and myself, speaking about this critical
moment facing America and why and how the Church must respond.

Pro-Abortion Amendments Under Consideration
This evening the House of Representatives will likely consider an amendment
by Susan Davis (D-CA) to the 2004 Department of Defense authorization bill,
HR 4200, which would repeal current law and authorize abortion-on-demand at
overseas military hospitals. This is the same amendment offered by Rep.
Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) in previous Congresses and rejected.
Another pro-abortion amendment will likely be offered this week by Barbara
Boxer (D-CA) in the Senate. While a bit different, it is also designed to
expand the use of public money for abortions at military facilities. It is
outrageous that in this time of war, some Members of Congress think it is
appropriate to push for taxpayer-funded abortions in military facilities.
Turning DOD medical facilities into abortion clinics does not represent the
will of the majority of Americans nor the military doctors who are trained
to save lives, not take them. Please contact your senators and
representative and ask them to vote against these pro-abortion amendments.

The 'Deal' on Judges: A Compromise Full of Consequences
In a shocking agreement that has some Senate Democrats "gleeful" but that
was described by a key Senate Republican staffer as a "terrible agreement
that no logical person would make," President Bush has ceded a key part of
his judicial appointment power to the Democrats. Under the deal, a floor
vote will be allowed on 25 "non-controversial nominees," some of whom
actually have the support of liberal Democrats. In turn, the President has
agreed to give up his Constitutional power to make recess appointments,
which are appointments made while the Senate is out of session. The
President has used this power in the past to put conservatives on the
federal appeals courts when Senate Democrats refused floor votes on the
nominees. Worse, with this agreement, the President has given away his
ability to expose the blatant "obstructionism" of Senate Democrats.
The deal effectively means the end for some of the President's best judicial
nominees, those for whom FRC working with the White House, has tirelessly
fought for in the confirmation process. FRC is profoundly disappointed in
this development. So too are several Republican Senate Judiciary Committee
members who were not even asked for their approval prior to the White
House-Senate Democrat pact.

They research how they can scare their sheeple into sending them more money.

Interesting, flick on to the US news stations and they (US news
stations) try to portray the "Family Research Council" as some sort of
research organisation; change the channel to the BBC or ABC (Australian
Broadcasting Corporation) and they'll say, "Family Research Group, US
based ultra conservative think-tank". Atleast the lobbygroups and think
tanks that exist in Australia/New Zealand/most other countries call
themselves just that, a think-tank or a lobby group. ACT,
ultra-freemarket party called it self for years a lobby group, and
unlike the fruit loop "councils" in the US, they had no problems calling
themselves a lobby group which worked with government to change the
direction of the country.
Isn't it funny how the conservatives group have such problems calling a
spade a spade.

Yes. They have successfully tied up the legislature with yet *another
pointless "issue" so people can ignore that nobody's doing squat about the
real problems in the state.
Now, everybody take notes. The clergy is powerful here. Know where we rank
among the states in quality of life?

-----------------
The last time I was in Louisiana we had a very talkative waitress one
day when we stopped for lunch. This was during the last presidential
election so politics was the buzz. This woman did volunteer work at
shelters, she said that she cared for heroine addicts in particular.
She recounted the way "her addicts" as she described them, were taken in
vans to polls in each district where they were instructed who they
should vote for.
These vans took her addict's to each district and each poll one after
the next.
By the way, she was a repbulican herself and claimed it was the evil
democrats at work. Had she been a democrat I am certain the last bit
would have been a little different, The people from shelters could
hardly effect national elections, however, they could have a noticeable
effect on local elections. This is just another example of why I have
heard it said, even in Louisiana, that that state has the most
corruption of any.

Throwing up a smokescreen perhaps? Corrupt regimes need to distract
the sheep with made-up enemies while they exploit and rob them.
Indeed, it's also the basis of the fundie KKKults.
I see Bush has received an honorary Doctor of Sciences from LSU (just
heard on CNN.) Considering the recipient, it doesn't say much for the
LSU faculty in question. Maybe it's creation "science [sic]".

Of course it's a smoke screen. Our ever vigilant legislature has *also
gone after the great public threat of pants worn too low. That earned us a
place on Comedy Central's Daily Show (though, dammit, I haven't seen it
myself). And, recently, the legislature protected the public by beating
back the push to repeal... the licensing of florists.
I mean, *anything but deal with any real issues.

I see Bush has received an honorary Doctor of Sciences from LSU (just

Oh, honorary degrees are passed out like party favors to politicians. It's
not like they actually mean anything...

I find it funny when someone in this group makes a stupid statement and they
get their nose rubbed in it, all of a sudden its corruption, the KKK, cults
and irrelevant. the fact is after a word from the church the Louisiana
legislator flopped and voted 87 to 11 against. Louisiana has a gay

*knock* *knock*, hello! wake up! thats the US! if it weren't for all the
imported labour, the US would have an IQ which would make even GWB look
great.
The fact that the US still clings on the bible like some sort of safety
