Senate nominee 'wanted sex in public'
A Republican senate nominee is refusing to stand down despite his
ex-wife's admission that he used to take her to sex clubs where he
would force her to have sex with strangers in public.
Jeri Lynn Ryan made her revelations about her ex-husband Jack, who
is standing for election as an Illinois senator, during an
acrimonious child custody battle four years ago.
The Chicago Tribune says they have only come to light now because
a judge has agreed to a request from the paper to release some of
the case records, a request both Ryans had fought.
Ms Ryan, a TV actress who has appeared on Star Trek: Voyager,
claims that in 1998 when their marriage was in trouble her husband
took her on what she thought were going to be romantic breaks to
New York and Paris.
"The clubs were explicit sex clubs," she says in the filing. "[Mr
Ryan] had done research. He took me to two clubs in New York
during the day.
"One I refused to go in. It had mattresses in cubicles. The other
club he insisted I go to.
"He wanted me to have sex with him there with another couple
watching. I refused. He asked me to perform a sexual activity upon
him and he specifically asked other people to watch. I was very
upset."
At the time Mr Ryan would only admit that they had been to one
'avant garde nightclub' in Paris, but has declined to comment
since the claims were made public.
Mr Ryan still has the backing of his party. "We're not looking at
trying to replace Jack Ryan. He's an excellent candidate," said
Dan Allen, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial
Committee.
But the paper quotes an adviser to President Bush saying that the
revelations make it more likely that the President will steer
clear of Illinois during this November's elections.
