Murder, Mayhem and Cannibalism Is Ok But.... |
I was watching the DVD of the remake of "Dawn of the Dead"...and considering
what a fan I was of the original, I was surprised about how much I enjoyed
it! The DVD has the uncut/director's cut/unrated version of the film with
heaps more gore and some more story...all the stuff the MPAA demanded be cut
out. As a film fan I also like to watch it a second time and listen to the
director's commentary. There was a scene were there have been a very tragic
event (I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen the movie but it's the
creepiest thing in the whole movie) and one of the characters is asked to
say a prayer over the bodies of a couple of their now dead friends because
he used to work in a church, when he replies "I just played the organ! I
don't believe in God....I don't know how anyone can!" Well apparently in
the original theatrical release, the director had to remove that line from
the movie...he sounded a little annoyed by it too..maybe he's one of us!
Now that just gets me...you have people turning into flesh eating zombies,
mass murder and cannibalism, gallons of blood and brains and guts, the end
of the world and heads being blown apart.....but one character says he's an
atheist and apparently the public can't take that, so it has to be censored!
Anyone know of any other instances where references to atheism were removed
from movies and TV....I know when "The Simpsons" are played here every
weeknight, pretty much any joke or critical observation about Christianity
has been cut out of episodes! When Homer is asked what religion he is he
answers "You know...that one with all the well meaning rules that never work
out in real life.....Christianity!!" Well that last part of the sentence
is edited out on Australian TV!

Oh dude! I saw so many of the actors that were in the original "Dawn of the
Dead" as well as "Day of the Dead" last Sunday at the horror model, toy and
film convention. It was cool! :)

Who? Ken Foree? I know Chilly Billy Hinzman from "Night" makes appearances
at festivals sometimes too. The little girl from "Night" has her own
website "The Ghoul Next Door"! Pity they don't have proper festivals like
that here...I'd have a ball!

No, not him. Though the guy who played "Candyman" was there :)

Unfortunately, I can't remember all the people from the Dead movies that
were there and they've already taken down the guests page. However, this
sillyhead has his picture taken with a ton of people that were there:

And I just realized that I never saw Tonya Harding! Shoot, I probably did
and just didn't realize it. I actually found the whole celebrity tent kind
of embarassing. Most of them just looked so old and desperate. It was
really kind of sad. But the guy who plays Jonesy from "Carnivale"? HOT! :)
I can't wait to go when they have it again in October! ;)

Tony Todd...he played the Duane Jones "Ben" part in Tom Savini's 1990 remake
of "Night of the Living Dead". He's one the coolest genre actors there is!

Wow...Potsy and Ralph Mouth! Well there's Gaylen Ross from the original
"Dawn", Betsy Baker and Ellen Sandweis (she got raped by the tree) from
"Evil Dead" and Lisa Wilcox and Lisa Zane (Freddy's daughter) from the
"Nightmare on Elm Street" movies...that's pretty good! Chilly Billy is
there (the cemetary zombie that attacks Barbara at the beginning of
"Night")....but my favourite is Howard Sherman, who gave the best
performance in any horror movie ever as "Bub, the pet zombie" in "Day of the
Dead". I would have been in heaven there!!
And I just realized that I never saw Tonya Harding! Shoot, I probably did

Did you run towards her screaming and waving a pipe over your head?

I've said this before, but it bears repeating:
I hate rating systems. Putting an "R" on a film tells me
nothing; the customer should be told what goes on in the
flick, and I'm not talking about those stupid one line
lists. Violence could be gun fights, fist fights, blood,
car chases, and a myriad of other things.
People should be told so they can choose for themselves.
Not everybody needs to have their hand held or their eyes
and ears covered during certain scenes. But films get
butchered by idiots like Blockbuster and Walmart in the
alleged name of "decency". The only rating system that
really tells you what to expect is in the porn industry
(X, XX, XXX).
There was a scene were there have been a very tragic
event (I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen the movie but
it's the
creepiest thing in the whole movie) and one of the characters is
asked to
say a prayer over the bodies of a couple of their now dead friends

The first three are catholic practices past and present,
so what did you expect?
Anyone know of any other instances where references to atheism were
removed

every

Christianity
has been cut out of episodes! When Homer is asked what religion he

never work
out in real life.....Christianity!!" Well that last part of the
sentence
is edited out on Australian TV!
This past Monday (for me it's Tuesday) the xmas episode of ER
called "Twas the night" was on and, of course, had a character
who was a "typically rude atheist curmudgeon" who softens up
after hearing a woman singing a xmas carol. Yawn.
Strange how in the same episode one of the regular characters
euthanizes her father on xmas eve.

How did they handle the episode when Maggie's intelligence was tested
and she had an IQ of 148. "That's very high. Especially for a
Christian!". That was the most gratuitous insult I'd ever heard them
throw in.
On American TV, I've often heard them half-bleep cursing. *bleep*Damn!
someone will say, which of course proves "god" is a dirty word.
