Object: my low years continue for now
My low years (low in terms of creativity at least and sometimes in
other ways) have now lasted, since Jan. 29, 1996, over ten
years, when, as I comment on
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/celtic.html ,
based on past figures I would have expected them to
last seven years. The difference I think is due to my
having access to modern medications, libraries, Internet,
and solar physics data, such that I could be expected
to have a longer low years period, not as bad on
average in intensity due to my having access to
the medications. But still I have to come out of
this rut sometime soon.
My home page is
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton
and my mystic page is
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/dtales.html .
I haven't touched the last one since last July and
won't touch it until at least one human asks me
to do some or all of the edits listed in
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/planned.html
and even then while in the low years I would,
I think, make the edits fairly slowly.
The last few days and today I have been a bit low
though in normal range, and a bit contemplative.
I am these days an atheist, such that even if my
former deities were proven to exist, I would not
worship them.
The strongest parallels I have to myself are on
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/celtic.html and
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/christian.html
but I haven't really done very much library and
web research yet.

What's with the sarcasm? If you thought it was strange for him to
post what he posted, why not just ignore him? Or is that too hard?

What "sarcasm"?
It was a genuine enquiry, literally expressed.
I have Asperger's, and on odd occasions, my literalness is
misinterpreted by those wish to add their own meaning to my words.
And as for your railing against the use of sarcasm:
"Or is that too hard?"
Mr. Pot, meet Mr. Erich Kettle.
Sheesh...

With all due respect, it *sounded* like sarcasm to me when I first
read it, as if you were suggesting that you were annoyed by this
person's post. And what with all the brutal honesty that gets passed
around on the Internet -- where people (including me) can safely post
their views behind a screen -- I thought I'd take a stand and
investigate further as to your motives.
This is because I was raised to be polite. But I now know this is
wrong. "Do you want polite, or do you want honest?" is something I've
come across recently online.
So that's what I did. I was being honest, wanting to know exactly
what you meant. I'm big enough to admit that I do see your point
about MY use of sarcasm right after I accused you of the same thing.
But again, I didn't realize that's what I was doing. I honestly felt
like asking you if it was too hard for you to restrain yourself from
making unnecessary comments.
Just so you know, I did a Google search of Asperger's. I didn't know
it existed, and now I know a little bit about it.
Imagine that -- I get "Sheeshed," my last name is made fun of, and I
still have the guts to admit I may have been wrong!

Good on you!
You sound like a well rounded individual. :)
I, too, profit when I have learned something.
And as for making fun of your name, if I had been a bit more "on the
ball" as it were, I should have found a way to include a reference to
a Cabbage, rather than a Kettle... ;)
(I was taking a bit of license by conflating Kohl with Kohler or
Koehler for the black/charcoal, I realise, but it was all I could come
up with on such short notice.)
Now, if only you had been called Krueger, then it would have been most
apt!

You could have used "Coal Miner's Daughter," which is what this one
kid in grade school used to call me. :-)
Do you agree with what I said about people's true feelings coming out
on the Internet? Sometimes it seems like people just like to argue
for the fun of it, instead of really finding out what the truth is.
But I suppose it depends on the situation.
And then you get into that whole sticky situation of defining "truth."

Except that it would be only homophonic, not conveying the literal
meaning of the epithet.
(And it never occurred to me! :(
When I see "Kohl", I automatically associate it with "cabbage".)

Do you agree with what I said about people's true feelings coming out
on the Internet? Sometimes it seems like people just like to argue
for the fun of it, instead of really finding out what the truth is.
But I suppose it depends on the situation.

I am, by far and away, NOT the most qualified person to make
judgements of what other people "feel", or don't.
I find I can only go by what they say and do.

And then you get into that whole sticky situation of defining "truth."

One can spot a lie though, especially of the type where an individual
makes a claim, and that claim is flatly denied by all the available
evidence.
Such as someone claiming that they did not say such and such, being
pointed to the post where they DID say exactly that, and then carrying
on denying it.
That is a clear example of a lie.
And such examples abound and breed in this newsgroup, almost
exclusively from the mouths/keyboards of theists.
The truth is somewhere in the residue, after removing the lies.

My term was meant to congratulate you on remaining an atheist. ;)
Atheists lack the delusion that there are supernatural sky-pixies who
look after you.
It wasn't a criticism...

and solar physics data, such that I could be expected
to have a longer low years period, not as bad on
average in intensity due to my having access to
the medications. But still I have to come out of
this rut sometime soon.

My home page is
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton
and my mystic page is
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/dtales.html .
I haven't touched the last one since last July and
won't touch it until at least one human asks me
to do some or all of the edits listed in
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/planned.html
and even then while in the low years I would,
I think, make the edits fairly slowly.

The last few days and today I have been a bit low
though in normal range, and a bit contemplative.

I am these days an atheist, such that even if my
former deities were proven to exist, I would not
worship them.

The strongest parallels I have to myself are on
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/celtic.html and
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/christian.html
but I haven't really done very much library and
web research yet.

And you are telling us this why, exactly?

Partly since I have posted to these newsgroups before
and this is just an update stating that I am still in the
low years. I hope to move into a period of steady
and non-delusional creativity (and out of the low
or wilderness years) sometime soon. I posted to
the atheist newsgroups since I am currently atheist.

David

Oh, thanks.
I was wondering for a while there, whether or not you were asking for
anything or not.
Here's hoping that you manage to improve.
At least you lack one destructive, but way too common delusion, so the
prospects look good! ;)
Have you consulted a health professional, or a counsellor?

Yes, I see a psychiatrist every four weeks, and am on
lithium and olanzapine for my bipolar mood disorder,
and am doing well enough that I think I could handle
a job, so I hope to find an interesting and non-stressful
job sometime soon. In the meantime I have been
going in to the university Wednesday to Friday,
sitting in on an undergrad class taught by my former
Ph.D. supervisor, attending seminars and research
group meetings, and helping out with a tutorial for
that class. I doubt from this that my ex-supervisor
will want me to register again but at least it should
cause him to give me a better job reference.

My low years (low in terms of creativity at least and sometimes in
other ways) have now lasted, since Jan. 29, 1996, over ten
years, when, as I comment on
http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/celtic.html ,
based on past figures I would have expected them to
last seven years. The difference I think is due to my
having access to modern medications, libraries, Internet,
and solar physics data, such that I could be expected
to have a longer low years period, not as bad on
average in intensity due to my having access to
the medications. But still I have to come out of
this rut sometime soon.

Excellent!
You are achieving more than I am able to these days,
so things are looking good for you.
Good luck, and don't let the fundies get a hold of you!
Michael.
