This man is deceased. For real.
He is no more.
He's not just resting.
He's dead.
sometime in the second semester of 2003, he bit the big one.
I'll write his obituary.
He was a retard. A simpleton.
He didn't understand how to achieve the chief goal in life, which is to earn
a good income. His method was to sign up for every dumb money making scheme
online and flood the Internet with ridiculously amateur home pages that he
hoped would get people to sign up under him.
He tinked with music, producing low quality works that he desired to sell
online.
This man was an example of a person bereft of talent, but without realising it.
He did not know himself.

Christmas Italian Style
Twas the night before Christmas,
Da whole house was mella,
Not a creature was stirrin',
Cuz I had a gun unda da pilla.
When up on da roof
I heard somethin' pound,
I sprung to da window,
To scream, "YO! Keep it down!"
When what to my
Wanderin' eyes should appear,
But da Don of all elfs,
And eight friggin' reindeer!
Wit' slicked back black hair,
And a silk red suit,
don Christopher wuz here,
And he brought da loot!
Wit' a slap to dare snouts,
And a yank on dare manes,
He cursed and he shouted,
And he called dem by name.
"Yo Tony, Yo Frankie,
Yo Vinny, Yo Vito,
Ay Joey, Ay Paulie,
Ay Pepe, Ay Guido!"
As I drew out my gun
And hid by da bed,
He flew troo da winda
And slapped me 'side da head.
"What da hell you doin'
Pullin' a gun on da Don?
Now all you're gettin' is coal,
You friggin' moron!"
Den pointin' a fat finga
Right unda my nose,
He twisted his pinky ring,
And up da chimney he rose.
He sprang to his sleigh,
Obscenities screamin',
Away dey all flew,
Before he troo dem a beatin'.
Den I heard him yell out,
What I did least expect,
"Merry Friggin' Christmas to all,
And yous better show some respect!"

Eep was some kind of news aggregator spider that predated google news. It=

His idea of marketing, though, put him into conflict with Usenet users,=20

nothing. One day a few month's later, I got ONE spam email as a direct=20

i don't give a ***** about him personally. what i have been doing lately i=
s=20
using google to research various people. the task is the research, and th=
e=20
fun is finding what i want out of the masses of data in google's index.
i've found out a lot about various people i've known. Peter Copeman was n=
ot=20
the first on my list by far. I researched him only after wracking my brai=
ns=20
to figure out who to look up next. but i have far more interesting subjec=
ts=20
that i am still continuing to research and struggling to get data on.
what i've also come to realise is that data mining via google is still ve=
ry=20
hard. it's hard to use google's rudimentary interface. google does not ev=
en=20
make it easy for people to discover how to use their advanced syntax. it'=
s=20
not conveniently accessible from the front page. it's buried, and it's=20
incomplete.
i am using syntax i remember out of my head from articles i've read=20
elsewhere, but which google doesn't seem to mention on its own site. in=20
fact, they give out incorrect syntax!
google's simple command line falls very short for advanced users, who wis=
h=20
to refine and re-refine their searches.
for instance, i get referred to google.co.za. i can choose to search all =
of=20
the web, or confine it to SA web. what about confining it to only the UK =
web? i don't know how to do that. i found one person who is now in=20
Australia. I don't know how to confine google to only Aus pages.
well, okay, i just checked and if open google.com.au and google.co.uk, i =
can=20
do that.
but i had to pluck that from my brain. i have to continually wrack my bra=
ins=20
to come up with new creative options to try. there is no easy intuitive=20
interface on google.com itself which makes doing that as easy as picking =
an=20
option. there are no links, even, to country specific google sites.
google needs to develop a more sophisticated advanced search interface fo=
r=20
people who want to use google to greater effect. google needs to make it =
more obvious how you can confine your search to various datasets, and use=
=20
options to add and subtract from the dataset being searched.
there are so many ways to mine data. you can spend a lot of time creating=
a=20
custom dataset, and then run searches against that, rather than the entir=
e=20
database (the universal set). and each search result is in turn itself a =
dataset, which you should be able to save for future data mining sessions=
=2E
and then you can use set logic to combine datasets by unions, intersectio=
ns,=20
and take the complement of them. google has a lot of work still to do to =
take themselves to the next generation of search.
and there's lots of problems with cached pages. sometimes it works,=20
sometimes it doesn't.

i don't give a ***** about him personally. what i have been doing lately is
using google to research various people. the task is the research, and the
fun is finding what i want out of the masses of data in google's index.

i've found out a lot about various people i've known. Peter Copeman was
not the first on my list by far. I researched him only after wracking my
brains to figure out who to look up next. but i have far more interesting
subjects that i am still continuing to research and struggling to get data
on.

what i've also come to realise is that data mining via google is still
very hard. it's hard to use google's rudimentary interface. google does
not even make it easy for people to discover how to use their advanced
syntax. it's not conveniently accessible from the front page. it's buried,
and it's incomplete.

i am using syntax i remember out of my head from articles i've read
elsewhere, but which google doesn't seem to mention on its own site. in
fact, they give out incorrect syntax!

google's simple command line falls very short for advanced users, who wish
to refine and re-refine their searches.

for instance, i get referred to google.co.za. i can choose to search all
of the web, or confine it to SA web. what about confining it to only the
UK web? i don't know how to do that. i found one person who is now in
Australia. I don't know how to confine google to only Aus pages.

well, okay, i just checked and if open google.com.au and google.co.uk, i
can do that.

but i had to pluck that from my brain. i have to continually wrack my
brains to come up with new creative options to try. there is no easy
intuitive interface on google.com itself which makes doing that as easy as
picking an option. there are no links, even, to country specific google
sites.

google needs to develop a more sophisticated advanced search interface for
people who want to use google to greater effect. google needs to make it
more obvious how you can confine your search to various datasets, and use
options to add and subtract from the dataset being searched.

there are so many ways to mine data. you can spend a lot of time creating
a custom dataset, and then run searches against that, rather than the
entire database (the universal set). and each search result is in turn
itself a dataset, which you should be able to save for future data mining
sessions.

and then you can use set logic to combine datasets by unions,
intersections, and take the complement of them. google has a lot of work
still to do to take themselves to the next generation of search.

and there's lots of problems with cached pages. sometimes it works,
sometimes it doesn't.

life's a big gamble

he lost his mind before he lost his body?

Very simple, if you have a functioning brain.

Some areas of Google Earth have *much* lower resolution
images than others. The images at Terrapin Point (beside
the Horseshoe Falls in Canada) are so detailed you can
see the shadows of tourists standing on the pavement.
My hometown, on the other hand, has such low
resolution images that individual streets are lost
in the clutter - I can only orient at all because we're
near the Susquehannah River and I can make out the
general shape of a nearby railyard and a large city
park. With these cues, I can barely make out one
of the buildings on the campus where I work - the
roof is bright white and the building has an odd shape - but
the rest is pretty much a wash.
Still, the feeling of flying while using it is pretty cool.
I remember an issue of Star Brand (from Marvel
Comic's New Universe line) where the newbie superhero
goes flying and gets completely lost. He flies up to
orbit so he can see the whole continent, picks out
a city he knows on the coastline, flies down to it
and follows a highway home...that's pretty much how
I found my hometown the first time I used Google Earth. :-)

Judging from your message header, my best guess would
be somewhere near Parow, South Africa.

That's just probably where he leaves his piles of *****.
He "lives" at Google Inc.

He was once here:

Richard Catto

Phone: +27 21 712 0840

He might still be there if anyone was interested in
finding him.

Whatever database has Parow as the city (it's actually a suburb) is
inaccurate. Most likely has not been updated. Some of the databases, that
I've just checked, state my line speed incorrectly as dialup.
I'm in a suburb of Cape Town.

it's not as easy as you think it should be.
i got lucky. someone in the community layer had labelled some landmarks. =
then try finding a road amongst all the other roads. it's not as if they =
are=20
conveniently labelled.
try it for yourself.

I did. We found our building in the first five minutes of use. Five
minutes later, I found the barracks I lived in at Fort Benning.
Very simple, if you have a functioning brain.

OK, where do you live?
