NEOCON ANALYSIS IS QUITE SIMPLY WRONG |
Let's take it at face value: Capitalism engenders selfishness.
Selfishness must be transcended by a mission to spread capitalism
elsewhere.
Okay. But where? If capitalism hasn't happened somewhere there must be
underlying causes. So...remove the leadership and capitalism will
flourish.
Not necessarily. Other forces may flourish - as in Iraq. Other forces
may crowd out capitalism and use the opportunity offered to establish
themselves.
And anyway...how does this impact on the people at home? Just because
a few thousand boys and girls are out there somewhere striving to
install capitalism does that enrich the folks back in the Homeland?
Are they saved?
Hardly. It doesn't impact. So, in both senses the theory doesn;t work.
Doesn't inspire; doesn't spread.
We have to recognise the complexity of other societies. We also have
to recognise the complexity of our own society. Western Capitalism is
an extraordinary growth. It is the natural expression of the human
being liberated from oppression and error- though not yet entirely
from either. To create such a society elsewhere requires rather more
sublety and care than shown to date by the Neocons.
