New Calendar |
I've just had a great idea!
The best way to choose a secular new calendar epoch is to choose
something that best poetically distinguishs old from new.
I choose the content split of the early 1990s between Radio One and
Radio Two, when Radio Two became a retro' station as well as a light
entertainment one(non-Brits - this is our imaginative way of naming
radio stations).

It is underrecognised for it's comedy.

Seven national ones(plus the World Service).
To begin with (in the first half of the 20th century) there was the
B.B.C Home Service and World Service.
The Home Service became what is now Radio 4(news, chat, insighful
discussion, comedy, science, etc), Radio One because a chart music
station in the sixties, and Radio Two became a Light Entertainment
Station. Radio Three was invented for Classical Music plus other
Radio-4-ish stuff. Radio Five was invented in the 90s(I think) as a
phone-in chat plus sports station.
We also have private radio. TalkSport(formerly Talk Radio), Classic
FM, and probably another one I've forgotten about. We also have local
radio stations.
TV is similar. Since 1936 we had one channel called B.B.C. Television.
In the sixties, it was split into B.B.C. One and B.B.C. Two.
I.T.V(private) was invented in the fifties and is often still commonly
referred to as "Channel 3". Channel Four came in about the late
seventies\early eighties. Channel Five(mainly trash) came in 1997.

I used to be an almost constant listener to Radio 4.
There's not much on there I enjoy anymore....the Dumbing down has ruined it.
'Insightful discussion', *****, I just hope you don't include 'the Moral
Maze' in that category !
