New Crackpot Index for Biology |
Here's a link to a crackpot index specifically designed to measure the
level of kookery of people claiming revolutionary advances (or other novel
claims) in biology.
The evolution crackpot index, created by John Wilkins.

This is a work in progress--note the comments--so I'm not reproducing it,

You could have just said: "NO!"
I'm not going to let you off easy. Kooks like you need to bury
themselves with facts you made up after watching an episode of the
x-files.
You must have me confused with someone else.
I do not watch television.
If you cannot point to a fact that I have made up, then I invite you
to stop lying about me.

Imagine the people who believe such things and who are not ashamed
to ignore totally all the patient findings of thinking minds through all
the centuries since the Bible was written. And it is these ignorant
people, the most uneducated, the most unimaginative, the most unthinking
among us who would make themselves the guides and leaders of us all, who
would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us, who would invade
our schools and libraries and homes.

This is a work in progress--note the comments--so I'm not reproducing it,
not yet.
There was a point about 15 years ago that someone in sci.astronomy
devised a charting/measuring scheme for various kooks...
Guess what. That was a Kook who designed that scale of Kooks. Only
Kooks would devise scales to rate various Kooks.
It was a method of place kooks and crackpots on a scale...
Who is the bigger Kook Art Bell or Hoagie
Kooks like to talk about Kooks.
It was a effort at measuring how far over the wall some people had
gone.

Think about it for a second:You, or someone, made a scale rating
kooks. Doesn't that sound like something a KOOK would do?

No.
This person took a few well know elements of what seem it takes makes
a person a kook. he divide the combinations of elements in too
directional by families. IIRC one of them was belief in a line of
thinking even when confronted with evidence which contradicts the
belief.
The other line was use of a pseudo science... IIRC, this was 15 years
ago.
he used three examples Alexander Albian, Charles "chuckie" Cagle, and
Archie Plutonium... He carefully read and plotted their kookiness on
this graph... it was a sociology experiment of sorts. Other people
found they could plot other people including themselves one this
graph. To be placed in the extreme, one had to really go overboard.
in the end there was about 20 well known kooks and persons plotted.
including Robert Larson, Hoaxie, Bell, Edmond Wollmann, Kazoo, Nancy
Lieder, Ed Conrad, robert mcelwhine, boatwright and a few other
people.
It wasn't a kooky thing to do. it was an early effort to chart and
track idiosyncracies, and what was people would either move up or
down the graph over time.
