We are talking about *christians* here, remember. They'll worship toasted

I still favor Adolf II for him. But at least he got the "dic" part
of his name right. It's unbelievable that they elevated a fanatic
enforcer who even his own friends referred to as the "pope's
rotweiller" -- and they didn't just call him that because he was
big, dumb and drooled a lot :).

He's 78. He won't last long. His extremism will drive Catholics away from
the Church, and almost guarantee that his successor will be liberal.
It takes extremism in action, rather than in the stealth mode, before people
finally wake up to the evils of extremism and turn their backs on it.
I feel a backlash coming against the right, and it's long overdue.

You are too optimistic. Ratz (AKA Pope Ben) was one of only 2
cardinals at the conclave who were not made by JP2. 26 years of papacy
will not be washed away so easily and Ben is sure to make a bunch or 2
of his cardinals.

He looks like death. He can't last too long.
So in a few years the Catholic Circus will be rerunning the same parade we
were just subjected to. I think they really blew their load on this one,
and the reaction to the next one will be one of apathy.
