Object: New program in Texas jails illegal immigrants
Legal immigrants are welcome in America, illegal immigrants are criminals
who belong in jail. Period. Once again, Texas leads the way.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060113/us_nm/usa_mexico_immigrants_dc
EAGLE PASS, Texas (Reuters) - A pilot program that jails all illegal
immigrants crossing into this Texas border town from Mexico has led to a
dramatic fall in numbers attempting the journey, the U.S. Office of Border
Patrol said on Friday.
A program known as Operation Streamline II, instituted on December 12, is
aimed mostly at non-Mexican illegal immigrants who were arrested and
released because Border Patrol agents did not have sufficient space to jail
them.
The blanket crackdown is also being applied to undocumented Mexicans who
were previously subject to criminal background checks and released back over
the Rio Grande without charges.
The U.S. Marshals Service has freed up 1,000 beds in several county jails
abutting the Border Patrol region that includes Eagle Pass, Texas, to
accommodate the growing number of immigrants.
"The message is one of zero tolerance to all illegal immigrants, whether
they are Mexican or (non-Mexican) nationals," said Hilario Leal, the U.S.
Border Patrol's spokesman for the sector that includes Eagle Pass.
"It appears to be getting out by word-of-mouth and through the media south
of the border, as the numbers attempting to cross has fallen dramatically."

I suppose it makes sense in its own way, though I wish it
didn't. Unfortunately, the flip side is far less genteel;
a handful of American citizens have been arrested for such
things as marijuana possession in Turkey or spying in
China, if memory serves.
But Streamline II does solve the problem of illegal
immigration. Now if only I could be convinced that it
was in fact a problem in the first place...

It's quite terrifying. They're out there *right *now on a Sunday, busting
their asses, working hard, patching damaged roofs, helping us rebuild
after Katrina and Rita and doing it at reasonable prices.
Oh the *horror!

The really funny thing is how the people of the State of Texas have
responded to the redneck calls for racial purity.
We used their beer and gun tax money to put up watering stations in the
desert.
Here in Dallas, our state employment agency has taken a valuable piece of
real estate and put up a Day Labor shelter with water fountains and
bathrooms and benches and two full-thyme employees.
Now, instead of begging on the street like a veteran, they have a safe,
comfortable place to gather.
Employers who don't want to pay federal employment taxes for the honor of
hiring a drunken redneck can just go there and hire a sober, skilled,
Mexican for the day.

Not to mention, we're not *supposed to need or want those jobs at this
stage in our civilization. I don't *want to clean toilets, tar roofs, or
mow lawns. They're not taking "our" jobs. "Our" jobs are being shipped
overseas by rich CEOs who want another billion dollar bonus. But if you
notice, the corporate elite point and yell "LOOK! BROWN PEOPLE! EEEEK!"

Exactly. This Administration is *confused*.
Of course, there's also the little issue that we let
'em in, they make minimum wage (maybe) and send some
back to Mexico. (This can be a problem as it might raise
prices in Mexico). If we arrest 'em, they make nothing
(except maybe license plates) and we the taxpayers have
to pay more than tuition costs at Harvard University.
Perhaps we would be better off putting them in a dorm and
teaching them a trade; at least that way we could ask for
donations from alumni and alumnae.... :-)
(Guess what's a growth industry, nowadays? It's not universities.)
Also, AIUI most immigrants simply overstay their visas.
The logical but inconsistent policy would have them
register much as a sex offender and report to an immigration
officer at frequent intervals -- perhaps once a week.
Of course this isn't exactly behavior one would expect from
"land of the free, home of the brave".

That would put them on equal-footing with the South's more backwater
rednecks.
White seperatist fathers do have a very real problem with not being able to
keep their hands off their own daughters.
Many to most of them shun society for that very reason - they don't want us
telling them to behave..
So to them, it's no big deal to demand that others live the same, shameful
life.
