New word needed |
Now that the State of Kansas has a new definition of the word "science",
there is bound to be some confusion whenever a student from the Kansas
public school system tries to talk to a scientist from anywhere in the
rest of the world. I propose that we use a new word when referring to the
definition of "science" that the Kansas School Board is using. Perhaps
"Kanscience" would be good? It is easy to pronounce and spell.
Some might object that we already have enough words to describe
"kanscience", words like "magic", "alchemy", "superstition", etc.
However, these terms are often used as a contrast with "science", while
"kanscience" is specifically defined as "real science PLUS magic."

I suppose I'm wondering why the scientist would want to speak to
someone educated in the Kansas school system in the future, below
college and university level anyhow. I think that the scientist will
be inclined to call this "science" sheer "ignorance".
If we are going to coin a term, however, it should end with "-ism", to
demarcate the fact that it is born of ideology/theology, and is not the
result of honest investigation. Dembski-ism, Behe-ism, Dimski-ism,
creationism, maybe even "scientism" (defined as that which has the
(albeit poor) appearance of science, but fails in all ways to meet
scientific standards. And I know the term is taken, but is not widely
used in its current definition). Of course we could just call it
metaphysics and skip word coinage.

IDiism for the belief system.
IDiist for any believer.
IDiot for any patriot in the effort to push that IDeology on others,
including anyone making any effort to get it taught in public schools.
IDiocy as the adjective for the quality of being an IDiot or IDiist or
for believing IDiism.
IDiology for the study of psychological factors in IDiocy.
IDiotry for the treatment of IDiots to attempt to cure them.

Why would you name it 'beat me to it'? It has too many syllables for the

How 'bout "omni-science"?
Naa, that's no good. That sounds like it might possibly be a good thing.
Very undescriptive of what they are doing in Kansas.
ascience?
How about "nonsciense"? It has kind of a cute double meaning.

Now that the State of Kansas has a new definition of the word
"science", there is bound to be some confusion whenever a student
from the Kansas public school system tries to talk to a scientist
from anywhere in the rest of the world. I propose that we use a new
word when referring to the definition of "science" that the Kansas
School Board is using. Perhaps "Kanscience" would be good? It is
easy to pronounce and spell.
Some might object that we already have enough words to describe
"kanscience", words like "magic", "alchemy", "superstition", etc.
However, these terms are often used as a contrast with "science",
while "kanscience" is specifically defined as "real science PLUS
magic."
How 'bout "omni-science"?

ascience?
In America it should be called asscience, based on where it originates. In the
rest of the world, arscience...
