Newdow to sue over 'in god we trust' on money |
http://www.kron4.com/Global/story.asp?S=4112531&nav=5D7l
SACRAMENTO, Calif. The atheist who's spent years trying to ban
recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools says he'll file
a new lawsuit this week.
Michael Newdow says he'll ask a federal court to order removal of the
national motto "In God We Trust" from US coins and currency. He says it
violates the religious rights of atheists who belong to his "First
Amendment Church of True Science."
The church's "three suggestions" are "question, be honest and do what's
right." Newdow says it wouldn't be right to take up a collection when
the money says "In God We Trust."
Last year, the Supreme Court dismissed Newdow's lawsuit over the words
"under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance because he doesn't have custody
of his daughter, in whose name the lawsuit was filed.
Newdow has resurrected that case by filing an identical lawsuit on
behalf of two families.

The first penny designed by Benjamin Franklin had the
motto "mind your own business".
Very biblical.
1 Peter 4:15
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an
evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.
It also makes a religious oath, which is forbidden.
Matthew 5:33-7
33 "Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time,
Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord
thine oaths:
34 "But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is
God's throne:
35 "Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem;
for it is the city of the great King.
36 "Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make
one hair white or black.
37 "But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever
is more than these cometh of evil.

I doubt he'll get very far with this one, the motto is a big fat lie,
but he'd be hard pressed to find a way to show that it's an
establisment that is adversely affecting a citizen.
I will keep an eye on it though.
