Newgrounds - a site to enjoy the hell out of! :-) |
For anyone who enjoys checking out the direction the trends of modern youth are
headed, and who likes a little something "artsy" and maybe even a bit "trippy",
I highly recommend "Newgrounds" - "www.newgrounds.com". I am not benefitting
from this endorsement in any way, the site is big enough it certainly wouldn't
need little old me on this tiny, dinky little corner of Usenet to make it
prosper. I'm telling you about it because I think some of you here will
actually _like_ it. Maybe even LOVE it, as do I. You can stop by for just a
quickie or you can stop by and browse around for hours - the choice is yours,
but I must warn you - it's HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. If you get registered and begin
voting on new submissions - protecting or blamming entries - that's when it gets
really fun, because a new flash is submitted like every minute and a half.
85-90% of them get blammed into oblivion, but it's sure fun as hell watching
through them, especially when you manage to stumble on the occasional jewel once
in awhile. It's also fun giving advice and encouragement to some of them who
are the future Matt Groening's of the world, and contemplating making some
animation of your own (I'm still twiddling around with a little series I've had
brewing for a few years - not ready to devote much time to it yet, but maybe
soon? Who knows...)
Anyway, I know how some of you here are. Some of you will really get a kick out
of it. Some of you will think it's a waste of time, of course, but you'll know
who you are pretty quickly once you arrive and thus, won't need to waste too
-much- of it making your way to the door.
For your first foray, I highly recommend this recent entry, a surprisingly
-stunning- stick animation - yes, I said stunning STICK animation - set to
R.E.M's "End of the World":
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/311816
You're sure to love it.
Anyway, I'm off to check out more. See you 'round - maybe on Newgrounds...!
:-)

You're right, it is a stunning stick animation.
Too many automatic advert popups for me to bother with the site though.
If you've got Java off you can't see the content.

I only ever have that problem once in a great while. For the most part, it only
throws out a popup for every 8 or 9 items you've viewed. But once in awhile, it
seems to get in the mode where it throws up 4 or 5 at once.
Anyway, I'm off to check out more. See you 'round - maybe on Newgrounds...!

One popup is irritating, more than that is infuriating.

Newgrounds has been around for a while, this isn't really news. But, I
recommend these movies:
The Matrix Has You
Perfect Kirby 3.1 - 3.3
One Ring to Rule Them All
Star Wars Gangsta Rap Special Edition
Bad Guys series
Xiao Xiao series
....and many, many others.
