News flash - prayer vigils have reduced violence in Iraq |
http://www.christiannewswire.com/news/838964385.html
This report gives credit to a prayer vigil by "Christian leaders" in
Iraq for the fact that civilian deaths in Baghdad dropped "nearly 50%"
over the summer. Strangely the article doesn't give actual numbers of
people who died.

The actual stats are delayed by some months, so what
comes out at the end of the month are estimates, and
usually on the low side. Then you have the area of
selection, in this case Baghdad as opposed to the
country as a whole.
The other problem is that civilian deaths need to be
broken down by combatant and non-combatant, which are
more inverse than proportional to each other. That is,
more combatant civilians killed usually means fewer
non-combatants killed, except for collateral kills.
But even collateral kills are often of people helping
combatants, so they are not entirely innocent.
As far as the prayer thing goes, not statistically
significant.

Oh "Bob", when will ye rise up and SMITE THE FALSE PROPHETS? Do I need
to cattle-prod the Fightin' Jesuhs?
Fewer people dying is still mass murder. I mean Wor. Pray for us
sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Ramen.
