Britain 'needs more gas power'
"The UK will need more gas-fired power stations soon to avert
widespread power shortages, a group of MPs has warned.
The Commons Environmental Audit Committee said the UK could not rely
solely on plans for a new batch of nuclear power stations.
The government's energy review, due later this year, is expected to
recommend more nuclear power.
But the committee said the UK faced a "generation gap" which nuclear
power could not bridge.
Terrorist fears
The first nuclear power plants would not come online until 2017, and
the proposed network would not be generating at full capacity until as
late as 2030.
The committee's report also warned of the dangers of terrorist attack
on the UK's nuclear power stations.
"Its chairman, Conservative MP Tim Yeo, says 'more gas fired power
stations will be needed by 2016 to keep the lights on," according to
the BBC's political correspondent Mike Sanders.
The committee said an "extensive" programme of gas-powered stations
needed to be set up, and that cleaner stations would not necessarily
mean more carbon emissions.
The committee also claimed it was "scandalous" that not enough
research was being carried out into alternative technologies such as
carbon capture, which could limit the emissions from fossil fuels.
It said renewable energy sources could provide 20% the UK's
electricity by the year 2020.

Why are you polluting this newsgroup with stuff like this and burying
all chance of proper debate in an avalanche of irrelevant dross?

Kill-file me if you don't like it.
Or filter out anything starting with "News:"
And who are you to pontificate about "proper debate"?
The only thread that you have started recently in alt.atheism, has
read thus:
(In it's entirety)
"Have you ever felt sorry for the Jews? All other tribes have myths
and
stories and fiction. They get ground down with the truth, the whole
truth and nothing but the blessed truth. No wonder they do all that
repetitive head-bobbing shite like a pack of retards. Wouldn't you? Oy
vey!"
A quick look at your style gives me the impression that all you are
able to dish out is frothing anti-semitism.
Why not start posting what you preach?
Then I might listen to your advice.

Why is there all this totally off-topic news here at all? It just makes
debate next to impossible as keeping an eye on a thread involve
downloading hundreds of headers about irrelevant subjects.
That story is not even the slightest bit connected with the subject
matter of this newsgroup and it is monumentally dull.
Even if I killfiled you I would still have to download the pointless
headers. Looking for gold in this poor seam is bad enough without people
dumping dross into it on a daily basis.

That doesn't say a lot for your speed reading comprehension skills or
your ability to search newsgroups.
The point that thread was making was that most of mankind understands
what myths are except for the Jews. They have had their culture crippled
by literalism. By having to believe what are transparently myths as if
they were unquestionable history they have effectively lobotomized their
culture and they have exported that literalism into Christianity and
Islam with devastating consequences.
Who am I to pontificate about debate? Why don't you check it out for
yourself? There, in the signature: http://mwillett.org Debate Unlimited.
A website that understands how to debate. You might discover how wrong
you are about me, but be prepared for more than a few seconds of
skim-reading.

Why not start posting what you preach?
Then I might listen to your advice.

I have been posting in this group off and on for nearly seven years, but
I keep getting driven away again by the sheer unwieldy bulk of it, which
isn't helped when people keep posting unwanted off topic stuff into it
on an industrial scale.
Surely there is plenty of material to discuss with atheists without ever
going off and discussing energy policy? If you want to discuss politics
or environmentalism find a different newsgroup.
When was the last time you saw somebody ASK for a debate about the
Conservative Party's energy policy on this newsgroup?

Your solution to YOUR problem is to kill-file me.
(A solution which I note you did not attempt to address.
Instead, you suggested as a solution to YOUR problem, that I check out
your usenet style on your web site, for some not adequately enumerated
reason.)
Why don't you plonk me instead of whinging at me, and the group in
general?
Simple quick and effective.
It is not my fault that you are either unwilling or unable to do that.
(For instance, if you insist on using a cheapskate browser.)

When was the last time you saw somebody ASK for a debate about the
Conservative Party's energy policy on this newsgroup?

Today.
I did.
Or do I not have your royal highnesses' permission to initiate
discussions?
Just who is on your list of those able to to ask for a debate about
"the Conservative Party's energy policy" on this public newsgroup?
What about other topics?
Is your list of permitted topics on your website?
Who maintains the list?
What about your policy on arrogant unsolicited advice?
Are you on the list of those able to privide same?
Now, kill-file me, and be done with it.
I have returned the expected favour.

Me killfiling you doesn't solve the problem of you polluting and
destroying the group with off topic subjects that make the group almost
unusable.
The more irrelevant topics that are introduced the less likely anybody
is to be able to keep up with the group. The group is already
ridiculously busy, why do you insist on introducing more irrelevant
material and making out that you are right to do so?
Do you want to destroy the whole group? It seems as though you do.
If my defending the group has upset anybody I do apologize, I should
just shut up and let you get on with it perhaps?
