Our Lady Heidi Klum is going to name our coming daughter "Leni", a short
form of the name "Helene".
This is a name from Greek aniquity, meaning "the shining one", and
combines the physical beauty of Helen of Troy and the spiritual beauty of St.
Helena, the mother of St. Constantine the Great, the first Christian Emperor of
the Roman Empire.
Heidi will name our daughter after her late paternal grandmother Leni
Klum that she loved dearly. Heidi says that she has inherited the shape of her
grandmother's nose and is always eager for sauerkraut soup prepared according
to her grandmother's recipe, now made by her mother Erna.
According to Greek custom, a couple's first daughter is named after the
paternal grandmother. Therefore, Heidi herself would have been named Leni,
according to Greek custom.
There is no need to name my daughter with Heidi after my own mother
Caterina, because my mother has already been honored through the name of my
oldest daughter Caterina, born to my wife Dina.
The name "Helene" has many versions in modern Greek, such as Eleni, Leni,
Lena, Elenitsa, Nitsa, Elenaki, etc. There is a memorable song from the late
1950s, titled "Nitsa, Elenitsa, Elenaki mou", meaning "My little Helen, my
Nitsa, my Elenitsa". The music and lyrics were written by George Mitsakis and
it was sung by Stelios Kazantzidis and Marinela, two of the top Greek singers
of the 20th century.

Here is a CD cover with Stelios Kazantzidis and "Nitsa, Elenitsa" as the
first song:

Here are the lyrics in phonetic transcription with a translation and
comments by me:
Stanza 1
Eftexa, sympathise me,
Elenitsa mou,
san ke prota angaliase me,
vre kouklitsa mou.
Translation:
I made a mistake, have sympathy with me,
my little Leni,
like before, hug me,
oh my little doll.
Comments: Heidi, this reminds me of the time when I sent "Merry
Christmas" greetings to you at your official Web site
http://www.heidiklum.com
without mentioning your pregnancy. Two days later, on December 22, 2003, I
realized my mistake and wrote back to you asking for your forgiveness. You are
a "Leni", too, after your grandmother, and your many beautiful autographs to me
read "To Nick, Hugs + Kisses, Heidi Klum (heart sign)". On December 22, 2003,
I realized that I am the father of your baby, begged your forgiveness for my
misbehavior, and you forgave me shortly thereafter.
Stanza 2
Pistepse me, orko kano
sti manoula mou,
s' agapo ke tha se kano
gynekoula mou.
Translation:
Believe me, I swear
on my little mother,
I love you and will make you
my little wife.
Chorus
Nitsa, Elenitsa,
Elenaki mou,
esy 'se t' oniro mou
ke to meraki mou.
Nitsa, Elenitsa,
Elenaki mou.
Translation:
My Nitsa, my Elenitsa,
my little Helen,
you are my dream
and my obsession.
Stanza 3
Sto seryani kathe dili,
Elenitsa mou,
me rotoun ya sena i fili,
vre kouklitsa mou.
Translation:
On the promenade every sunset,
my little Leni,
the friends ask me about you,
oh my little doll.
Comments: After you had announced your pregnancy on December 16, 2003, I
did not comment in the Newsgroups for days and days and all the regulars were
wondering what was up with me. Then on December 22, 2003, I realized my
mistake, understood that I am the father of your baby, and came back to the
Newsgroups.
Stanza 4
Theloun na mas xanadoune
na ta blexoume
ke sto gamo mas na 'rthoune
na horepsoune.
Translation:
They (the friends) want to see us again
get involved with each other
and to our wedding to come
to dance.
Stanza 5
Ki an i mana sou den theli,
Elenitsa mou,
pes to "ne" ke min se meli,
vre kouklitsa mou.
Translation:
Even if your mother does not want,
my little Leni,
say "yes" and don't worry yourself,
oh my little doll.
Comments: I don't know what Heidi's mother Erna may be thinking, but her
father Guenther has said in the past that he would not be surprised if Heidi
gets married to someone like Prince Albert of Monaco. Well, all I can say is
that I, Czar Nicholas III, would be a more important catch.
Stanza 6
Ti zoi mas na haroume
dihos klamata
ki angalitsa na mas vroune
to yeramata.
Translation:
Our life to enjoy
without tears
and in tender embrace to be met
by old age.
These days I play this song over and over on my car's CD player and the
chorus is stuck in my mind:
Nitsa, Elenitsa,
Elenaki mou,
esy 'se t' oniro mou
ke to meraki mou.
Nitsa, Elenitsa,
Elenaki mou!
My Heidi and my little Leni, you are my dream and my obsession.
Nitsa, Elenitsa, Elenaki mou!
