Norwegian Magazine Apologizes for Cartoons

DOHA, February 15, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) – A Norwegian on Tuesday,
February 15, offered renowned Muslim scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi an
apology from the Norwegian magazine that has reprinted the Danish
cartoons lampooning Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him).
"We accepted the apology in principle," Qaradawi said after the meeting,
also attended by Mohamed Hamdan, the chairman of the Supreme Islamic
Council in Norway and Norway's Deputy Archbishop Oliva Howika.
"We do appreciate the Norwegian stance which is different from that
taken by Denmark," said Qaradawi, the chairman of the International
Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS).
"The Norwegian prime minister has condemned the cartoons at the very
outset," noted the prominent scholar.
Last September, Denmark's mass circulation daily Jyllands-Posten ran 12
cartoons of Prophet Muhammad.
One of the photos showed the prophet wearing a bomb-shaped turban and
another showed him as a knife-wielding nomad flanked by shrouded women.
Many European newspapers, including the Norwegian Magazinet, reprinted
the drawings, triggering an outcry across the Muslim world and calls to
boycott Danish products and Norwegian products.
Vebjoern Selbekk, the editor of the Norwegian magazine, apologized to
Muslims on February 10, for publishing the cartoons.
After initially defending his January 10 publication of the cartoons as
an expression of press freedom, he appeared before TV cameras shaking
hands with Muslim leaders after his apology.
Ban Blasphemy
Qaradawi called anew on the United Nations to adopt a resolution banning
blasphemy to head off similar incidents in the future.
He also urged the European Union to criminalize blasphemy against any
religion, including pagan religions.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is pressing for a ban
on religious intolerance to be part of the bedrock of a planned new
United Nations human rights body.
"Muslims want all people to live in peace, cooperation and love. We
don't call for strife. All people are created by God, so there was no
need for this strife," Qaradawi told reporters.
"We were deeply hurt by the cartoons. The Danish newspaper could have
defused the crisis by offering an immediate apology to the Muslims. Had
it apologized, the issue would have been resolved," he said.
Qaradawi pointed out that there is a difference between freedom of
expression and freedom of insulting.
"Freedom of expression is all about expressing an opinion. In the
cartoons case, there is no opinion or counter-opinion," he said.
The Norwegian delegation assured the renowned scholar that Article 135-A
of the Norwegian Penal Code orders a maximum penalty of three years in
jail for publishing articles mocking religions or ethnic groups.

some sort of collective consciousness. What one does is on behalf of
everyone.
And concerning the guy in question who apologized, he is a devout
christian. They have struck a sort of moral alliance to try and outlaw
ALL "blasphemy" (which is ironic because every religion and even sect
within a religion is blasphemous to everyone else by default), and he
was in tears, after weeks of death threats to him and his family.

of $25.00 cold hard American cash for a certified, verified, naked
picture of the wife, mother or the adult sister of the Mohammed Yousaf
Qureshi mentioned in the article. She must be completely naked and her
nudity must be easily verified from the picture. No photoshopping. It
needs to be real. First come first serve. There is only one reward.
Again, I don't have as much money as the Imams but I've set aside a
week's worth of lunch money for this project. Once I award the $25.00
it's gone. I reserve the right to post the picture on the Internet.
The decision of the judge (me) is final, and I reserve the right to be
extremely arbitrary and capricious in my judgment. The proof of
identity is going to have to be pretty compelling, but I'll be glad to
inspect any entries. There's an extra $5.00 in it for you if the
picture is so disgusting it makes me not want to eat my lunch anyway.

and (adult) sisters and (adult) aunts and (adult) cousins and (adult)
wives and grandmothers of Islamic (or Christian or Buddhist or Hindu or

humiliating photographs of female relatives of these bastards is just
the start. There should be a charitable fund for the humiliation of

Words like "the" are "articles." Why limit it to pronouns, verbs, and
articles? All language, all words were invented by our holy God, Fritz
the Cat, and can only be spoken in honor of his holy name. Also death
to infidels who wear clothing in public! Fritz the Cat, our holy God,
caused us to be born naked, and those who wear clothes blaspheme
against his holy plan.
And Fritz the Cat doesn't like people worshipping false made-up gods
like Allah. That's idolatry. Idolators must be punished by being

Words like "the" are "articles." Why limit it to pronouns, verbs, and
articles? All language, all words were invented by our holy God, Fritz
the Cat, and can only be spoken in honor of his holy name. Also death
to infidels who wear clothing in public! Fritz the Cat, our holy God,
caused us to be born naked, and those who wear clothes blaspheme
against his holy plan.
And Fritz the Cat doesn't like people worshipping false made-up gods
like Allah. That's idolatry. Idolators must be punished by being
shaved completely bald and dunked in His Holy Cat Litter.
Okay, though, the problem is that if it's going to be a real religion
we're going to have to think of something ridiculous to go with the
above holy revelations.
