Now after 4 days |
Now after 4 days......it is just absolutely unbelievable how ignorant and
downright ugly the average atheist really is.
I've said it before, and it definitively must be repeated here, you atheist have
absolutely no idea what you're talking about. You are overflowing with
stupidity.
A natural disaster hits an area, not a one of your atheist organizations has
offered help to the victims, and you sit back and criticize, criticize,
criticize those who have bent over backwards to help.
New Orleans had about 2 days advance notice, and you chide the country for not
having the NG stationed in place. The city is inaccessible due to flooding, no
communication, no electricity, and you spend all your time crying "wolf".
You dipshits really need to sit back and re-evaluate your priorities. I may not
appreciate your hatred for God, but I scorn you for your lack of empathy and
your desire to badmouth those that are doing so much.
Shame on you losers.
Thank you President George Bush.

they do not believe in?
First you have to realize that if Earl says it, it is THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH.
If Earl says 2 + 2 = 5, then you learned it wrong in school.
But don't take my word for it.
Just for fun:

No one can get through to douche lebougre.
That is, of course, everyone else's fault -- according to douche himself.
Why, he's the most mild-mannered of fellows -- he keeps telling us so. He
knows about stuff. He knows more about more stuff than all of us together.
Didn't you know that? He's told us often enough! Why, he even knows that
the people who set up the newsgroup and wrote the charter and FAQ are the
ones who should never post here.He knows that anyone who disagrees with him
should leave the group immediately -- that's what he told me, and Mac, and
in time will tell Apostate of Grace.
It's obvious to him that a newsgroup established for ex-Catholics should
welcome preachers bent on bringing us back into the fold.
It's quite plain (to him) that anyone who hasn't told /him/ some
overwhelmingly good reason for feeling him/herself injured at the hands of
the RCC is just a weakling and a liar, badly in need of his help. And it's
widely known that douche never changes anyone else's name, always reads a
post to which he's replying all the way through, and never lies.
He's a superb logician, never resorts to ad hominem attacks, never
introduces red herrings and never changes definitions in mid post.
He's great at mathematics, too.

If the moon wasn't turning we would see a different side of it as it moved
around the earth. Think about it. The fact that, as the moon orbits the

Moon spins around it's axis once in exactly the same amount of time that it

Does it rotate on its axis? Yesterday you said it does not. If it just

we see the same hemisphere all the time.
This is so stupid. Are you doing this to rile us up?

Dumbass.
Tie two balls on separate strings. Hang one from the ceiling to
represent the earth. It doesn't have to rotate for this example. Now,
dangle the other from your fingers and make sure it does NOT rotate on
the string. Make a note of each and every side that faces the ball hung
from the ceiling as it "orbits". It's different, isn't it? ISN'T IT???
Rotating the ball hanging from the ceiling only makes it possible for
everyone who lives on that ball to view the section of moon that is
facing it. If the moon does not rotate, we see every part of it.
But this is not what we see from the earth. We see exactly the same
hemisphere of the moon no matter where it is. The only difference is
that different parts of it are lit by the sun during different parts of
the month.
The moon rotates at exactly the same speed it revolves around the earth.
This is probably because what is now the moon lifted out of the molten
planet Earth billions of years ago and settled into its present orbit -
assuming the same rotation speed as the Earth. This is why we'd never
seen the back side of the moon until the Apollo missions were able to go
there and photograph it.
When I was a kid, speculation was made about continental drift in my
science class. We hypothesized that the moon lifted out of what is now
the Pacific Ocean, and the continents have been moving in that direction
ever since, to compensate for the hole left. It makes sense.
Didn't you pay attention in science class, Earl?

Like a ball on a string.
Dumbass.
Tie two balls on separate strings. Hang one from the ceiling to represent
the earth. It doesn't have to rotate for this example. Now, dangle the
other from your fingers and make sure it does NOT rotate on the string.
Make a note of each and every side that faces the ball hung from the
ceiling as it "orbits". It's different, isn't it? ISN'T IT???
Rotating the ball hanging from the ceiling only makes it possible for
everyone who lives on that ball to view the section of moon that is facing
it. If the moon does not rotate, we see every part of it.
But this is not what we see from the earth. We see exactly the same
hemisphere of the moon no matter where it is. The only difference is that
different parts of it are lit by the sun during different parts of the
month.
You know, you'd have better luck explaining this to my dogs...

No it doesn't, mikey, not for millions of years now.
Like a ball on a string, it swings around the earth with the same face always
facing earth. Even you can safely step outside and see this. Like a ball on a
string, or in this case, as gravity is the string.
Holy *****, you're moron.
Duke, do you notice the Moon has phases? That's the moon's day/night
cycle. The *only* way it could have that is if it rotates on its
axis.
The moon is what we called tidally locked. It's day is equal to the
period of its orbit around the Earth. So it does rotate, and we see
only one side.

If the moon wasn't turning we would see a different side of it as it moved
around the earth. Think about it. The fact that, as the moon orbits the
Earth, we see the same side means that the Moon is turning on it's axis. The
Moon spins around it's axis once in exactly the same amount of time that it
takes to go around the Earth.

Does a ball on a string rotate?
It's a perspective thing, Earl. If the Earth suddenly exploded, leaving
the moon in space by itself, would it be standing still or rotating?
Having lost the gravity that keeps it in orbit, it would probably move
off on a tangent to its orbital circle, and perhaps settle into orbit
around the sun. But rotation is a force separate from revolution, so it
would indeed still be rotating on its axis, as it has, apparently, for a
few billion years.
Is gravity holding the moon like a

There is no string holding the moon. That's stupid. The moon revolves
around the earth due to gravity. It also rotates at exactly the same
speed it revolves around the earth, on a parallel axis, suggesting that
it was at one point in time a part of the earth.

It would head off into deep space. No more string holdinf it to earth.

Gravity. It's there. It caused the differential tides.
