On Laura and the Twins at convention. |
"Even Conservatives Hated Them. . . . The verdict from the Fox News
crew on Jenna, Barbara, and Laura is not good.
"Bill Kristol: 'The last half hour did not help, as far as I can tell,
Bush's campaign for reelection.'
"Mort Kondracke: 'Those two girls were ditzes. I'm surprised they were
allowed on the program.'
"Fred Barnes: 'I think she [Laura] had no place up there or the
daughters either. . . . Their mother said they'll be pursuing their
own careers. I would advise them to look in some field other than
comedy.'
"Now I don't think that anyone -- anyone -- casts their vote based on
the family of the candidate. And that goes for people who really don't
like Teresa, too. But it's gotta be pretty bad when the message
discipline breaks down like this at Fox News."
And the conservative Real Clear Politics piles on:
"The Bush twins were a disaster. I just don't know how to put it any
other way. After the first couple of jokes I winced. After a couple of
more I was begging them to stop. They didn't.
"The litany of jokes they told were, in my opinion, both juvenile and
inappropriate. Even worse, the twins reflected badly on the President,
reinforcing the worst possible stereotype of the ditsy, slacker
daughters of a C-student fratboy from Yale. My jaw literally hit the
floor when Jenna Bush said: 'Since we've graduated from college, we're
looking around for something to do for the next few years. Kind of
like Dad.'
"I'm sorry, but whoever wrote that line should be dragged to the
guillotine at noon today. . . .
"Laura was better. But she still didn't make a connection with the
crowd like some might have expected. In general, people like Laura
Bush. In particular, Republican delegates LOVE Laura Bush. But her
speech was rather pedestrian and the delegates in the hall absorbed it
as such, responding to the first lady with polite and respectful --
though not wildly passionate -- applause."

And really is showing cleavage actually a good idea around the
Gropenator?
Or is Jenna one of those Republican women who are so desperate for a
little action that they beg him for it?

dropped too. What were they thinking? Have they already concluded that their
Dad is a lame duck, or were they talking about his vast tracts of vacation
time while in office?

Laura Bush's makeup reminded me of those Greeks sporting that white statue
makeup during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. She looked like a
wooden school marm up there in her off-green dress. She made Al Gore look
like a wild man. If the race were about First Ladies, Teresa Heinz would win
hands down.

Now that's just stoopid. Here are the numbers:
Larua Bush
Favorable: 67% Unfavorable 20%
Shove-It
Favorable: 39% Unfavorable: 43%
Terayyyyza gave a self-indulgent speech about herself. The only thing she
had to say about *the candidate* was how lucky he was to have married her.
What grace and class! OTOH, Laura talked exclusively about the President
and her feelings for him. Get real. Poloitically, Laura is an asset,
Ketchup-lady is an ATM but otherwise a political liablility.

HAHAHAHA! And I thought the daughters at the DNC were bad! (Actually, for
her age, Edward's daughter was *extremely* articulate and intelligent
sounding. If I *did* vote based on the family, Edwards would get *my*
vote. His wife.....ehhhhh...but the daughter was great. And I believe the
way the kids act is a direct reflection on the skills of the parent(s)
So Bush's daughters bombed. They should have focused, like Edwards'
daughter, but decided to play the laff card and landed square on their
prats! Keep them *off* the podium!
I missed Laura, no comment.
