"One Nation Under God" dated? |
Yes, I think so. "Under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegiance
during the Col War back in 1954. Since our new enemy is terrorism in
the name of "God" or "Allah" shouldn't the Pledge be changed to reflect
this new reality? It seems absurd for us to fight theocratic oppression
while reciting a Pledge which when taken literally declares us to be a
theocracy. Perhaps Dubya's motto should be "Democracy abroad, theocracy
at home" since he wishes to amend the Constition to enforce religious
taboos against gay marriage.
