Ok, it's NewsMax, but bear with me...

John Paul II. The 110th is "De Labore Solis" (Of the Solar Eclipse, or
From the Toil of the Sun). The corresponding pope was John Paul II
(1978-2005). John Paul II was born on May 8, 1920 during an eclipse of
the sun. Like the sun, he came out of the East (Poland). Like the sun,
he visited countries all around the globe.

Interestingly enough, there will be a solar eclipse on Friday, the day
JP II is buried:

Errmm, Poland is only the East for certain countries. In fact, for the most
populated countries, you could say that Poland is to the WEST and therefore
where the sun sets, not where it rises....
But I don't want to ruin a good story :)

Or West, which just proves the stupidity of the original statement.

Actually, no. From what I've been hearing (over and over and over and over
and over...) on the news, the Vatican has very closely followed centuries
old traditions. There is a window of only two or three days that burial can
occur after the death of a pontiff; the chances that a solar eclipse would
occur when that window was open is pretty small

Of course he could have been dead for a few days before they officially said
he died, so they could have seen what was going to happen and planned it out
for extra publicity points.

I almost said "after the *official* death of a pontiff", but that seemed far too
cynical even for me to say :-P

I'm not so sure. The media and everyone else are all getting their info
from the same source: the people immediately surrounding the Pope at
the time of his death. It is not inconceivable that they would keep the
news of his death a secret to enable them to secure their position as
well as to have the burial on the day of the eclipse.
