A pastor from the Revival of Faith congregation in Hammanskraal was
today sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for raping a member of his
flock three times in one night.

The 21-year-old woman claimed her pastor promised her a Bible if she
kept quiet about the incident which happened in 2002 at his
Hammanskraal home. Elias Manamela (28), admitted to having sex with
the woman but he said she gave consent. The woman earlier testified
that she was visiting Manamela and she was in his bedroom, when he
pulled her onto the bed and raped her. She insisted that she did not
give consent, although she did not shout for help. She said she
trusted her pastor and told him she was tired and that she wanted to
go home.

He held her tightly, preventing her from leaving, but later walked her
home. According to a victim impact report the woman was very
traumatised by the rape. She refused counselling from her church, as
she did not trust them anymore. The court heard that she once was an
active member of the congregation, but now she did not want to have
anything to do with the church.

The woman said she was in awe of her pastor before the rape ordeal and
fully trusted him. Testimonials were handed in at court, stating that
Manamela preached in jail and helped people. Manamela, a married man
with one child, had his Bible at his side during his trial. - Sapa

But the night in question was to be a rape!!

The guy did not get 15 years for rape, but 15 years for being a pastor
and violating the expectations for being a pastor. However, it is not
a crime to betray your faith, so something which was seen as a crime
was needed.

Now the question of why you think it is a big deal. Especially since
your post contained information to show it was not what it seemed.

Three times in one night all on the offer of a Bible? How exactly did
this restrain for the second time, let alone for the third? A willing
victim?

Oh no, cannot have that because there would be little law to convict a
pastor for screwing the flock, must contend it was rape.

So contrary to the contention his deed is an example of hypocrisy, it
really is an example of how serious those whom believe take their
faith.
