Oprah is full of sh*t |
Oprah cries that Frey betrayed millions of readers. James Frey perhaps
betrayed Oprah but it was Oprah, and only Oprah, who betrayed her millions
of followers. This episode has destroyed whatever credibility she once held.

Oprah throws the book at Frey
One thing you don't want to do is make Oprah Winfrey mad at you.
Unfortunately for him, "A Million Little Pieces" author James Frey is about
to learn it the hard way. Here's the deal: Oprah selected Frey's memoir of
overcoming drug addiction and alcoholism for her precious book club, making
the book a best-seller. The sleuths at The Smoking Gun did what Frey's
publishing company probably should've done and did a background check,
revealing that portions of Frey's book were embellished or completely false.
On Thursday, Frey faced Oprah on her show and the talk-show diva let him
have it, asking him why he "felt the need to lie." "It is difficult for me
to talk to you because I really feel duped ... but more importantly, I feel
that you betrayed millions of readers," Oprah said, according to People
magazine. So, don't look for Frey's next book to be a part of Oprah's book
club

You could say that about any celebrity, just because they are
celebrities. That's the definition of celebrity.
It's a variant on the false argument that people with lots of money
and fame *automatically* know more than everybody else. We could
invite Cindi Lauper to run the Federal Reserve.

Oprah cries that Frey betrayed millions of readers. James Frey perhaps
betrayed Oprah but it was Oprah, and only Oprah, who betrayed her millions
of followers. This episode has destroyed whatever credibility she once
held.
Jealous of her riches?

Oprah throws the book at Frey
J Young, I realized that with the morals of a cockroach and the fiber of a
jellyfish it hard for you to tell true conviction when you see it.
Orah stuck to her guns and convictions. Thousands if not millions had
bought the book based on her recommendation as a truthful account of some
overcoming addiction. Then to find out that this person lied about most of
it, and was making money off that lie.
Oprah was right in feeling outrage about Frey's lies, he did betray his
readers. The book has passed off as a biography, not a work of fiction Of
course I can see why you would empahaze with Frey, as one lying ***** to
another.

I can never understand why any intelligent person would attach any
more significance to the opinions of movie stars and talk show
celebrities, than to people who might actually know something.

Of course, there's the flip side . . . they have every right to an
opinion, like the rest of us, and every right to express it. So the
Dixie Chicks don't like Bush. Why shouldn't they be free to say so in a
public forum? They're fucking musicians! Listen to their music if you
like it, ignore their politics if you don't like it. But no! Disagree
with a fundie on anything, and he's out for blood.
