Object: OT - Amazon's latest suggestion
I went over to Amazon.com the other day, to search for a book I had
heard of, and got an interesting surprise. The initial page that was
displayed said "We think that because you recently ordered 'Isaac
Asimov's Guide to the Bible,' you might be interested in buying a copy
of 'My Life' by Bill Clinton."
Man... talk bout your non-sequiturs!

I went to look at my Amazon homepage and it suggests 'My Life' because my
wife ordered 'Castle of Wisdom' on my account! It also recommends 'Whale
Rider' since I have 'Bowling for Columbine' on my wish list and 'Nancy Drew:
the Secret of Shadow Ranch' because I ordered 'Halo: Combat Evolved.'
(!!??)
How the hell did they go from a first person combat game to a Nancy Drew
book?

LOL - Well, I went from "Confessions of a Mafia Hitman" to that same Nancy

Whoa, they should just combine titles. Like, 'Confessions of Nancy Drew' or
'Nancy Drew Puts a Cap in Don Corleone.' That would be cool.

Because I ordered "Steve Allen on the Bible, Religion, and Morality"
it recommended Tom Clancy's "Battle Ready". Huh?

I'd simply *love* to see their suggestions database. It's as if they
have random children for each parent. Weird. And I bet that innovation
doesn't geberate a single extra penny in sales.

My experience has been that probably a third of the recommendations are
pretty good. I've bought a few books that were recommended by the system.
