OT - hikikomori |
I viewed a program on SBS TV about hikikomori - a social problem that
does not exist outside Japan. A hikikomori is usually a teen or young
adult, usually male who does not come out of his bedroom for years.
Often starts with bullying at school which causes the teen not to want
to go to school or even outside his bedroom. Exam performance and cram
schools (private tuition) also play a part. There are over 1.2 million
hikikomori in Japan. It just seems so strange and sad.
