Now, NEWSWEEK has learned, the Pentagon is intensively debating an
option that dates back to a still-secret strategy in the Reagan
administration’s battle against the leftist guerrilla insurgency in El
Salvador in the early 1980s.

(Among the current administration officials who dealt with Central
America back then is John Negroponte, who is today the U.S. ambassador

evidence, however, that Negroponte knew anything about the Salvadoran
death squads or the Iran-Contra scandal at the time.

In our last episode <MPG.1c4f1f1bf476894f989feb@news.optusnet.com.au>,
Meteorite Debris lept out of the bushes shouting:
OT - Pentagon may use Salvador option in Iraq
It worked so well the first time...

Now, NEWSWEEK has learned, the Pentagon is intensively debating an
option that dates back to a still-secret strategy in the Reagan
administration's battle against the leftist guerrilla insurgency in
El
Salvador in the early 1980s.
Or the US backed Contras used in Nicaragua to destablize
the freely elected Sandanista government.
Actually, we should call it the Knesset option, since
Israel perfected it. They have hit many targets more
difficult than assassinating cripples in wheelchairs.
(Among the current administration officials who dealt with Central
America back then is John Negroponte, who is today the U.S.
ambassador
to Iraq. Under Reagan, he was ambassador to Honduras. There is no

death squads or the Iran-Contra scandal at the time.
And Nixon knew nothing about the tapes, and Hitler knew
nothing about the camps, and Shrub knew nothing about
the torture of POWs, and Reagan knew nothing about the
illegal arms sales, and.... 9_9
"Rationalize" and "nationalize" don't just rhyme, in the
US they are interchangeable.
"The Sunni population is paying no price for the support it is giving
to the terrorists," he said. "From their point of view, it is cost-
free. We have to change that equation."
That sounds more like a threat of retribution than an
encouragement to cooperate. And given the US policy
in Iraq of winning hearts and minds is by ripping them
out of dead bodies and counting, it won't surprise me
if it is intended as a threat.
