Object: OT--7,000 Amps of Dumbass
Until recently, I wasn't aware of the worldwide theft of copper; maybe a
month ago, I Googled several stories--train signal wiring in France,
school gutters in Australia...a church's entire air conditioning system
gutted for the copper in its outside unit. Locally, a guy was found dead
this past week in Mobile, Alabama after getting electrocuted while trying
to harvest copper from cables that fed railroad signals.
Then there's this guy:

A would-be copper thief is either dead or near death after an attempted
burglary at a Gulf Power Co. substation earlier this week, Escambia
County sheriff's investigators said.
Gulf Power officials told investigators that utility systems recorded a
jolt measuring 7,000 amps -- enough to power 15,000 homes -- to the
person who tapped into a live wire at the substation in the 600 block of
West Michigan Avenue.
"It is very possible they received a lethal dose of electricity," Gulf
Power spokesman John Hutchinson said Thursday at a news conference at the
Sheriff's Office. "If (the thief) is still alive, he likely has severe
internal damage."
Hutchinson said the suspect needs immediate medical attention.
"A jolt like this microwaves your insides," he said. "You might not have
lots of burns on the outside, but your insides will be cooked. After
that, it's only a matter of time before gangrene sets in."
Fingerprints also were found on another piece of equipment, Hutchinson
said.
"The (suspect's) fingers melted his prints into the paint," he said. "He
was that hot."
Sheriff's Lt. Steve Hardy said investigators have been checking burn
centers and hospitals for suspects, but no one has turned up.
Hardy said the thief or thieves did not make off with the copper. He said
several items were left behind, suggesting they left in a hurry.
Since the beginning of October, 20 copper thefts have been reported in
Escambia County.
Logan DeVries, property manager for Halford Realty, said two shopping
centers he manages -- the Navy Park center in the 3900 block of Navy
Boulevard and the Jackson Square center in the 6500 block of West Jackson
Street -- have been vandalized in the past two weeks. Eight air-
conditioning units were taken at the Navy Park center and three units
were stolen at Jackson Square.
"Each unit, which cost about $2,500, had to be replaced," DeVries said.
"It is adding up quick."
DeVries said he has fenced in several air-conditioning units in hopes of
deterring future thieves.
"We have been thinking about our other options," he said. "We are
considering getting cameras."
Sheriff's Investigator Jim Hall said DeVries has the right idea.
"A video system that a local business was using was instrumental in
making two arrests last month," Hall said. "The idea is to make it as
difficult for the thieves as you can."
Officers also have been monitoring four local recycling centers and scrap
yards, looking for people trying to sell stolen goods.
"Hopefully, if they can't sell it in this county, they won't steal it in
this county," Hall said.

I wouldn't be surprised if they bury the story along with the body.
The thing is; he *can* scream and scream and scream and scream.

I sure hope he's not in charge of anything having to do with
electricity. 60 Hz doesn't "microwave" anything, no matter how high
the voltage.

I think he's trying to throw a scare into would-be copper thieves. If
they're dumb enough to try stealing copper from an active substation,
maybe they'll believe they'll get cooked.

Maybe the thief is discussing the matter with Jebus. They have that
in common.
