OT: A hero from another war asks Kerry to apologize to Vets |

<quote>
"One day he's saying that we were shooting civilians, cutting off their
ears, cutting off their heads, throwing away his medals or his ribbons,"
Dole said. "The next day he's standing there, 'I want to be president
because I'm a Vietnam veteran.'
"Maybe he should apologize to all the other 2.5 million veterans who served.
He wasn't the only one in Vietnam," said Dole, whose World War II wounds
left him without the use of his right arm.
Dole added: "And here's, you know, a good guy, a good friend. I respect his
record. But three Purple Hearts and never bled that I know of. I mean,
they're all superficial wounds. Three Purple Hearts and you're out."

There's no contradiction.
Kerry was speaking of the official U.S. government/pentagon
policy of "Free Fire Zones." The policy was not created by
the men who served inside them, instead they were simply
following orders.
Kerry was right, of course. No war historian outside a mental
institution can look back today and not credit the "Free Fire
Zone" policy with at least contributing to our failure in Vietnam.
The policy turned countless thousands of ordinary Vietnamese
civilians into American-hating communist soldiers.
The people who hate Kerry have no choice. To admit that Kerry
is right would not only admit to their role in supporting atrocities,
but it would be to admit their role in Americas defeat.
There's no way Kerry can appease that kind of anger. It's not
about Kerry. It's not Kerry they're angry with. It's not Kerry that
they hate. Their problem is with the truth & themselves.

Yeah and both you and Dole are such fucking retards that you don't
realize what a complete non sequitur that is. Yeah, Kerry is a vietnam
vet and served courageously. But the truth is that there were
atrocities in Vietnam and all Kerry did is tell the truth. Telling the
truth does no injury to vietnam veterans and true patriots would honor a
person who like Kerry for helping to expose the severe abuses that were
sometimes committed in that war. Naturally, since you and many other
repugs are completely unethical traitors and fascists, you are offended
that Kerry didn't try to cover up the abuses in vietnam, much as the
Nazis tried to cover up the holocaust. Kerry was not the first person
to reveal that atrocities were committed in Vietnam and it did not hurt
the moral of law abiding soldiers to be told that some of their brothers
lost it and committed war crimes. Kerry was not against the soldiers,
but against the war. He was trying to get our government to stop a
stupid, brutal, evil war in Vietnam that was not making the country
safer and was chewing up young service men like a meat grinder. It took
great courage to try to stop that war, but Kerry helped save the lives
of a great many service men. AWOL Georgie was even happy that he didn't
have to hide from service any more.
"Maybe he should apologize to all the other 2.5 million veterans who served.
He wasn't the only one in Vietnam," said Dole, whose World War II wounds
left him without the use of his right arm.
Dole added: "And here's, you know, a good guy, a good friend. I respect his

they're all superficial wounds. Three Purple Hearts and you're out."

comparable to the smallpox virus but harder to
eradicate." -- Richard Dawkins
