I suppose this is spam. :) The ACLU is opposing the movement to put a
definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman into the
constitution. Since that sort of thing is often discussed here I
thought I would shamelessly promote them. The ACLU has as its mission
the presevation of our US Constitution. They fight the erosion of our
liberties every day. They oppose the so-called Patriot Act for its
intrusion into our private lives and generally do good stuff. I
joined and they send me an "Action Alert" email anytime they have an
issue and want members to write their Congressmen. It makes things
simple. You compose your message on the ACLU website using a guide.
The ACLU will email, fax or post it to your congressman as you
specify. And you are now a *real American citizen!
Help fight to keep the freedoms this country was founded on. Join the
ACLU.

No, but there are plenty of people who don't want others to be free. We call
these people "right-wingers".

It's not that people don't want to be free. It's just that some people
don't like other people to be free.

They also pay scant attention to the 20th Amendment, as well as 26th
and 27th, which is kind of undersantable since their concentrate on
the first.

The 2nd Amendment is advocated by other organizations, aside from it being
totally unthreatened by the Current Regime. The 1st, 4th and 5th,
however....

I wish people would not decide their vote solely on the second
amendment.
The party that lets you keep your guns will take everything else, and
will take your guns, too, if they deem it necessary. They'll also come
at you with more weaponry than you'll ever have when it's time to
establish the Theocracy.
The other party, no matter what is said, will never succeed in taking
your guns.
So, with one party we have to fight desperately for 9 amendments and
the constitution itself, with the other, we need only focus on the
second amendment.
Which seems easier on Democracy now, chaps?

That's changing the point from the policies of the ACLU to those of the
major parties. If the ACLU really is dedicated to defending civil
liberties, it should defend all of them, not just those that are currently
politically correct. And they should defend the rights of all minorities,
including gun owners and smokers.
I disagree that there is any significant difference between the major
parties as far as overall threats to our Constitutional and ethical rights.
They only differ in which freedoms they want to take away first.

I agree that both parties have their faults but with the GOP we are
going to hell in a hand basket fast. We are taking the world with us.
The ACLU can't tackle everything all at once, rather, we need to deal
with what's under attack NOW, and I don't see the 2nd being swept away
at this time.
Sometimes I think the GOP makes it a point to favor the NRA since so
many voters place an inordinate amount of importance on guns vis-a-vis
politics, so they pick up lots of votes on the issue.
Same goes for religion - they pander to the 85% who tell pollsters
they are religious, not for the sake of faith, but the votes that
garner power over the people.
Remember, the people are supposed to have power over the government.
The GOP does not deserve your vote just because they support the 2nd
because they'll strip away all others. They will walk right over you
anyway, guns or not. They won't care how many cops you kill if they
want you, it'll just add to your prison time or satisfy their lust for
executions.
The Democrats should not be denied votes because they pander
codswallop to gun-grabbers. It's *****. They ARE NOT going to take
away guns.
Guns are here to stay forever, and if the 2nd is threatened, the ACLU,
I'm sure, as well as the NRA will be right there for us.
What I'm opining here is that the gun issue is a diversion from the
issues that affect the future of the USA, it's economy, our jobs,
health and rights, and how the USA handles the takeover of the world
and it's religions.
