OT- Cat Scratch Fever |
It's been raining here for two days straight and my cat, who normally
spends most of the day outside is cooped up inside the house and
scratching around looking for stuff to do.
He's driving me crazy, what should I do?

Go to the pet store and buy him two or three mice.

Get him some catnip and let him get stoned as hell. He'll probably sleep

plastic coated wires things that you use to close bags. My cat will
sometimes spend hours batting them around the house.
Best not to let your kitty do that. My sister is a veternarian and
you don't want to know what it costs to get one of those things out of
your cat.
LOL, too true. One of my cat's favorite toys in the plastic top from a
gallon of milk :)
I just found a great sounding cat toy in Signals (I think) - it's an
electronic moving something that's in a small paper sack. Apparently
it moves for about 3 minutes before it stops and the sack is
impervious to claws and ripping. I'm going to have to get one.

Drives 'em crazy to not be able to reach the whatever. Catnip in a
tied sock does wonders, too.

When the contacts are set to ON the ball hurls and rolls on the floor with a
stuffed "weasel" attached to it - only it looks like a ferret rather than a
weasel.
Hours of cat fun after they get unafraid of it.
I actually bought one of those about a year ago, and Luey got bored
with it within a day or two. I ended up giving it to a friend with a
dog, and their dog got tired or uninterested in it even sooner.
Also, a mini laser light. Only take care not to let it hit them in the eyes
for even an instant. They think they're chasing Tinker Bell.
:p
That's still one of Luey's favorites. He hasn't got bored with that
yet in over two years. I was looking for something that I didn't have
to control, if you know what I mean. Since it's spring here, the last
week has provided all kinds of actual "living critters," outside, and
so toys he knows are "dead" don't seem to interest him very much
at this time of the year. He'd rather be outside hunting lizards and
mice, but the rain is coming down too hard...

Buy him an umbrella, very small.

My dog goes absolutely nuts over that goofy ball thing but he is a retriver
which means he is a hunting dog.

The laser is an excellent suggestion. I especially enjoy when my cat
pounces and I shut it off; she can't figure out how it got away.
I've also heard some cats get kind of squirrelly with cotton balls, but
I've never tried that.

Nah...I tried using a laser on a cat once, but it didn't explode like things
do in the movies...waste of 5 bucks!

Let him out anyway.
If there's no porch or other structure for him to hide under,
improvise.
Have a towel ready for when he comes back in.
