OT: ?? re: "Silent Hill" movie/game |
I'm starting to get wrapped up in the fictitious mythos of the game/movie,
"Silent Hill". I'm not very deep into it yet, but I have watched the movie
several times now, and each time am noticing something different. I was curious
if anyone who has more knowledge of the game has any idea what exactly the deal
was supposed to be with Rose & Sharon at the end of the movie. If you've not
seen it & don't want spoilers, don't scroll down.

Okay. Well, I'm aware that the Silent Hill mythos is fairly well-developed
already, so I'd like to try to understand the movie within the context of the
already established mythos. I guess you could say I've been "bitten" by the
Silent Hill bug, or some such. ;-) I suppose we're probably to draw our own
conclusions as to the movie's ending, but I like coming to conclusions that are
consistent with the reality (fictitious or otherwise) that I'm studying. So I
felt I'd better seek more knowledgable input.
Anywho... Sharon & Rose were clearly still in some sort of "limbo" realm at the
end of the movie, but were they actually supposed to be dead? I thought maybe
they were supposed to have died when their vehicle crashed, but then why would
there be no body in the "real" world?
I also noticed that the tone Rose used when calling from Silent Hill and leaving
a message for her husband wasn't the same when we actually listened to her
making the call as it was when her husband listened to that message on his
voicemail. His voicemail version had the obligatory static and distortion, but
her actual tone sounded absolutely terrified and hysterical - not at all like
the way she sounded when we watched her leaving the message. So it's like her
voice was subjected to a sort of "panic" distortion between the limbo reality
and the real world. For some reason, that was a fascinating aspect of the
interplay between the Silent Hill "limbo" world and the "real" world. Is there
actually something to that within the mythos or was that just an off-the-cuff
effect for the movie?
That's about all I can think of for now, though I'd be glad to discuss other
aspects of the movie with anyone, or hear about the games or mythos - it's all
becoming quite fascinating to me. I'm probably going to have to get me a game
system - something I hadn't done since the original Nintendo - just so I can
play it.
Anywho, have a good one. L8r! :-)
