Winter's the building season :)
But I don't know how well the paint on it would dry in winter conditions.
How humid is it out your way?
I think if I built one of those, I'd skin it in canvas like the author did,
but then go over it in and out with epoxy and fiberglass--especially if I
was planning on using it in local rivers. I don't know how often people run
the river to clean up snags, but I hit an easy dozen of them in my 'yak the
last trip. I'd never take a skin boat under those conditions.

Yah, you wouldn't want to do any river running in it as it's built.

Well, the whole idea was to build a light boat (kayak) for quick runs on the
lake and such. There are some nice places in the Carolinas where a kayak
such as this would be perfect - the water is placid, but access is limited.
It would also be nice in some of the strip mine areas where I grew up in
Ohio; the ponds are usually only a few yards apart, but you can't get a
vehicle in. It takes two to drag in a row boat, which makes a lot of noise.
But if one guy can bring in one small kayak...

I think the bays here are a bit too active. I have only a few days a month
when I can paddle in Pensacola Bay--the tides are calm. Otherwise, I'd have
to settle for a bit more activity, with even 1-foot waves slobbering all
over me.
Still...as long as I leave my camera at home, that can be fun!

The main thing I like about the new 'yak is that it slides over snags and
such in the water. My inflatable got a pinhole in it from a very slight
abrasion over an oyster bed I didn't even see (murky water, even in the
shallows).

You shouldn't pick on me when I'm exhausted--I get more literal-minded and
pedantic ;p
I had to get up at 4:15am yesterday (Thursday), be at the meet-spot to
leave for a grocery store in Brewton at 5:45am, start the inventory at
7am...we left there at 1:30 pm. On top of the usual exhaustion from sitting
in a cramped company van for 2-1/2 hours total, I had to hobble around
because of a blister I've developed on the ball of my foot: I've started
walking about 1.3 miles a day. First day was fine. Second day, I wore
socks, got my feet sweaty, and rubbed a hot spot into my foot. Third day, I
made the mistake of not staying off that foot. No socks. More rubbing...and
when I got home I had a dime-sized blister.
It's got me all *****--I missed my walk last night and will probably
miss tonight unless I slap on my skates and roll around the track a few
laps. Now that I've gotten my fat ***** into the mood for walking I don't
want to be inconvenienced by blisters *grumble*

It's got me all *****--I missed my walk last night and will probably
miss tonight unless I slap on my skates and roll around the track a few
laps. Now that I've gotten my fat ***** into the mood for walking I don't
want to be inconvenienced by blisters *grumble*
Understand that one. The weather here is not good for walking (not that
I've been doing good enough to for the last year) and it's also firearms
hunting season.

Did you get a vinyl patch kit for her?
Maybe later; once I got the Bananayak, the Barney-boat pretty much
got put into indefinite storage.
I was teasing you. I was working on 'inflatable,' and 'bed.' Word
play.

I had no idea you were exhausted.
Excuses, excuses... *g*
I had to get up at 4:15am yesterday (Thursday), be at the meet-spot to
leave for a grocery store in Brewton at 5:45am, start the inventory at
7am...we left there at 1:30 pm. On top of the usual exhaustion from
sitting in a cramped company van for 2-1/2 hours total,
Blah...bet you don't get paid for the travel time.
We do. Doesn't nearly pay back having to sit where you can't move around.
No rest stops. It REALLY sucks on those long-***** drives to Panama City.
I had to hobble around
because of a blister I've developed on the ball of my foot: I've
started walking about 1.3 miles a day. First day was fine. Second day,
I wore socks, got my feet sweaty, and rubbed a hot spot into my foot.
Third day, I made the mistake of not staying off that foot. No socks.
More rubbing...and when I got home I had a dime-sized blister.

That makes it "running" season!
The blister's about gone...I'm ready to go!

I'm surprised you do get paid and the other, sadly enough, comes with
the territory.
