OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A 13-year-old Lacey boy who posted pictures of himself on
the Internet was charged with possessing and dealing in child pornography.
A Thurston County deputy prosecutor, John Skinder, said the boy was charged
Friday with possessing and dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in
explicit behavior.
He was released to his parents while the case is pending. If convicted he
faces up to 60 days in juvenile detention.

A Thurston County deputy prosecutor, John Skinder, said the boy was
charged
Friday with possessing and dealing in depictions of a minor engaged in
explicit behavior.
He was released to his parents while the case is pending. If convicted he
faces up to 60 days in juvenile detention.

Yes, that's strange. I can see why they want to prosecute, but questions do
arise. Will they draw up a restraining order so that he may not appear
within 150 feet of himself? If he masturbates, are they going to arrest him
for rape, since a minor cannot have consensual sex? Well, I guess that only
applies to adults who have sex with minors. Of course his photos would be
deemed as appealing to the prurient interests of pedophiles.
I think what seems weird about it is the particular offense they're charging
him with. It's his own body, you think, but then there are many areas in
which minors are not considered to have the same rights as adults. If he
were doing that kind of thing out on the street, he'd be arrested for lewd
and lascivious behavior. I think it would be less weird if they had a
separate law for this kind of thing.

the hell do you do if the child is determined to do it himself? Can one

I say the prosecuter should be send to a psychiatrist!
This crazyness feeds the slumbering idea, that the "crime" of
child-pornography does not exist.
I do think we should not tolerate adults having sex with infants,
but we should not prosecute the possesion of evidence,
but the crime itself.
Why, if I posses pictures of an adult having sex with an infant I am
committing a crime, but if I posses pictures of a terrorist beheading
a man I am not?
This seems strange indeed, as the latter is surely the greater crime.

It wasn't just photos of himself. According to the "The News Tribune"
(Tacoma): "A 13-year-old boy charged with possessing and distributing
child pornography, **including photos of himself**, on the Internet has
been released to his parents while his case is pending....In addition to
photos of the boy, other graphic images showing both boys and girls were
downloaded from other spots on the Internet, the prosecution said...."

No more bizarre than plenty of other things the government does.
What genuis came up with the brilliant idea that the best way to help
people who are hurting themselves is to hurt them again? We do it to
attempted suicides, things like this child porn case, drug addicts, and
so on.
