Object: OT: Adware - Radiant
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
Some Adware called Radiant has installed itself on my PC. I tried the
Uninstall option but "conveniently" when I run it it asks for a
"missing" .dll file and then bombs out.
I tried an Ad-Aware scan but that didn't remove it, and it does not
appear in the Add/Remove programs list.
Obviously the missing file is a ploy to prevent you removing it (apart
from deleting the directory and registry entries) and I am sick up to
here with the low-life on the Web who force this crap (and that
includes spam, of course) on to us.
I understand the need in our western society to spread the word about
your product or service but there are limits, especially as I can't
trash this stuff like I do with most unwanted commercial bumph.

Try running Spybot, as well. You can find it at:

If that doesn't work, feel free to email me at jeremy at

for you. I have to fix multiple machines a day that are infected

I was replying, but then decided to see if anyone else was about to
suggest Spybot. I concur. I use Spybot too, and originally found out
about it when Xupiter took over my Internet Explorer. Much more
aggresive than Ad Aware. And I found that there is no getting rid of
stuff like that without some kind of tool. I know I tried. I couldn't
even get the registry key to delete.
As I've discovered that alot of these spywares install themselves off of
popups, Popup Stopper is also pretty good to have, and prevents annoying
popups even when they don't include spyware.
Good luck.

Don't depend on Norton to handle spyware, as that is not what it
is intended to do. It's also why you should run a program like
Anti-Trojan Shield regularly, because AV programs like Norton do
not look for all of the trojans, because it is a virus scanner.

I agree ad-aware really messed up my computer too. I read somewhere
that they actually read everything on your computer and send it to
their (lavasoft.de)computers in Germany/Sweden, whenever you request
an update. I noticed that zone-alarm went off and they kept sending
info to lavasoft.de I wouldn't recommend them, they are suppose to be
removing the spyware, not spying on their users.
If your not sure, run a port sniffer and see what I mean. It looks
like ad-aware from lavasoft is actually a spyware program itself! Who
would think? I loved using it until I found this out.

The problem is with Mcafee. About the only two virus programs

Remove it from your Registry.
Start/run/(type - regedit- )/hit Return. Your Registry will come

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/microsoft/windows/current

You might find it elsewhere. Use the find option in the toolbar.
