OT: Allegations halt bishop vote |
It says here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3124471.stm
Anglican leaders in the US have delayed their historic vote on
confirming an openly gay man as a bishop.
The Episcopalian House of Bishops had been due to cast their vote on
Bishop-Elect Gene Robinson on Monday after he won the approval of the
Church's rank-and-file.
But allegations of "touching " and pornography" have now emerged,
according to The Associated Press quoting Episcopal spokesman Jim
Solheim.
Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold is due to make a statement later on
Monday, Mr Solheim added.
The issue of the new appointment has threatened to split Anglicans in
America and abroad.

As some at the conference noted, the timing is very 'curious'.

Of course they have.
Nominate an openly gay man for anything and "allegations of touching and
porno" will emerge...

I expect that the allegations are nothing more than a desperate, last ditch
effort by conservative elements to halt Robinson's consecration. And what is more
obvious to the conservative mindset than the "facts" linking homosexuality with
"sexual misconduct?"
(The link given above says nothing about "touching and pornography.")

Regularizing the ordination of women threatened to do the same thing 25 years
ago, as did the consecration of Barbara Harris as the first woman bishop in 1989.
No such split has yet occured.
