BACKGROUND noise gets in the way of many cellphone conversations. It
can be hard to hear what the person on the other end is saying when
there is competition from traffic or nearby people who are also
talking.
But several electrical engineers and other scientists are working to
reduce or mask the distracting noises that can reach a cellphone and
disrupt a conversation.
