Object: OT: Annoying inability to indent with character
Sometimes I try to reply to messages on this newsgroup, and for some reason
my newsreader fails to indent the quoted text with the little ">" character.
Luckily it's a rare occurance, but it really pisses me off, and I often end
up just not replying when it happens.
Anyone know WTF causes that?

Never happens with Agent. What reader are you using?

He uses Outlook Express. He is lucky it works at all.

I've noticed that in most cases there is a special non-standard
character in the original. A grave accent or
umlaut or something like that.

I have no idea why it happens, other than it is an OE flaw. I've had it
happen to me on occasion as well.

Good. BTW, Outlook is a POS as well.
Free Agent is, well, free. Thunderbird is not bad and getting better.
And Agent is pretty inexpensive.

You're using Outhouse Depress. What did you expect, correct
functionality? Hell, it took 'em something like six years to fix the
