OT: Another football death - 8 year old collapses & dies at football practice |
This is the 2nd death this week I've heard where a player collapsed
and died. I feel for his family, you're never ready for a shock like
this. :-( Just thought it might be of some interest to a few folks
here, as it hasn't made the national news yet that I can see.

I'm reminded of a facetious comment on football fanaticism.
"Football is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than
that".

No, Sunday is much more about the real American religions -- Football.
Church attendance is pro-forma and no one really wants to live by the
values espoused there.

Well, since you trotted out the facetious comment first, I suppose I
can go ahead. The one that popped into _my_ head pretty early on ran
something along the lines of, "Yeah, they thank God(TM) all the time.
He(TM)'s _great_ at helping them make touchdowns and field goals, but
what about the collapsing death part when they could _really_ use its
help?"

What an insensitive ***** I am. I have no shame. But here we go:
(actually my heart goes out to these people and their kin: really: but
I must rant):
That's more people than marijuana has killed. In fact, marijuana,
grown and used correctly, may have saved some of these people.
But no, according to the U.S. Government's logic, we must ban football
and arrest everybody caught playing or watching it, bust the radio, TV
and print media that distributes it. And kill anyone betting on it. So
many people are into it it must be addictive and it must contribute to
drunk driving, another source of deaths that marijuana does not
contribute to.
Also, anyone with any football equipment - balls, helmets, jerseys,
cleats ETC should have their house and property confiscated, spend the
rest of their life in jail especially if they are Black, so the others
don't get infected with this football menace.
The stadiums could be converted to Walmarts and other mega-chains to
give illegal aliens jobs and a legal status. We could close the INS,
too.
More gigabucks for the gigawealthy that now run this country.

I take it 'honorable' was Sputnik altitude sarcasm.
Usually that's the way I use _honorable_.

Back when I ran ambulance I remember sitting at a football game watching the
little kids play and listening to the coaches scream at them for not playing
at a professional level.
T- ball and the step after that in baseball around here seems a lot better.
everybody plays, everybody hits and the inning ends after everybody scores.
The kids rarely have any idea of who won or lost but all had fun.

My daughter's soccer team never had any coaches that yelled at the girls.
The parents yelled a little some times, but most were just encouraging. But
some of the teams we played against, whew! The coaches yelled, the parents
yelled, the girls on one team even cussed in Spanish, but of course being in
Texas our girls already knew all their cusswords. The yelling didn't seem to
help the other teams, we always ended with a winning season, usually went to
at least one level of playoffs.

Who are you calling dense?
I've ignored sports all my life. When I was a kid it seemed that the Giants
and Dodgers always played in the World series and I never could figure out
why it had that name when the same two teams always played.
The dense part comes from my finally realizing just a few years ago that
people took spectator sports seriously.
