Anybody but Bush - and then let's get back to work

With Kerry at the helm, the left might focus on the real issues again

Last month, I reluctantly joined the Anybody But Bush camp. It was
"Bush in a Box" that finally got me, a gag gift my brother gave my
father on his 66th birthday. Bush in a Box is a cardboard cut-out of
President 43 with a set of adhesive speech balloons featuring the
usual tired Bushisms: "Is our children learning?" "They
misunderestimated me" - standard-issue Bush-bashing schlock, on sale
at Wal-Mart, made in Malaysia.
Yet Bush in a Box filled me with despair. It's not that the president
is dumb, which I already knew, it's that he makes us dumb. Don't get
me wrong: my brother is an exceptionally bright guy; he heads a
think-tank that publishes weighty policy papers on the failings of
export-oriented resource extraction and the false savings of cuts to
welfare. Whenever I have a question involving interest rates or
currency boards, he's my first call. But Bush in a Box pretty much
summarises the level of analysis coming from the left these days. You
know the line: The White House has been hijacked by a shady gang of
zealots who are either insane or stupid or both. Vote Kerry and return
the country to sanity.

I'm glad somebody finally said it. The Left has been so busy
personalizing everything that is wrong with the US onto Bush's
shoulders they don't seem to have noticed the guy they're hoping will
replace him is practically a clone--only equipt with a brain, this
time.
If Not Bush wins, then it's time to forget about personalities and
start working on restoring democracy, and hopefully electing a
president and Congress next time around that are worth a *****.

I suggest you read some of the insiders' books about the Bush
administration. Try Suskind's "The Price Of Loyalty". The point is
convincingly made that policy considerations take, not a back seat, but the
trunk to getting Schmuck/"Go ***** Yourself" re-elected. Sadly for us, this
worst US president in history couldn't keep two ideas in his head
simultaneously, he forgot his re-election mission and moved into Iraq,
misleading the electorate and botching the peace. We must try to salvage
what we can, including the presidency.
If a person doesn't understand the urgency with which we need to smash and
repudiate this horrifying and ghastly presidency, a person is simply not
paying enough attention. Get out of the comfort zone. The US is responsible
for killing thousands in Iraq. As a US citizen, I must accept that and come
to terms with the ethical results. This is the most serious ***** a person
can do.
Sometimes, in order to fight and win, we have to first understand the
opponent. Understanding Bush causes enough despair in people already. I am
not too concerned that speaking the horrible truth about the vital necessity
to raise the US standard of leadership causes some folks to wish we could
all just get along again.
You can be abo-fucking-lutely sure that we patriots will not go gently into
the silent night if Bush is actually elected. You will be in for 4 full
years more of protest and full-on political protest at that. He is the wrong
person for the job and we would be letting our heirs down to acquiesse like
good little borgs.
Sadly, this election to come will not allow compromise. If you want to feel
less conflict, you'll just have to wait until Bush is gone.
Ignorance is so relaxing; stimulate yourself!

A clone of whom? Not Bush, certainly. Kerry compares quite well to FDR,
though.
