Even sceptics like me have to applaud Blair's Africa commission

The Guardian
Lancaster House's opulence seems an incongruous setting in which to
discuss African poverty, but this was the venue for the last meeting of
Tony Blair's Commission for Africa two weeks ago. On the damask-covered
sofas, under the glittering chandeliers, were unlikely huddles - Bob
Geldof, the American member Nancy Baker and Fola Adeola of Nigeria -
hammering out the final details of Britain's plan to "save" Africa.
But the choice of venue had an uncanny resonance. The discreet wealth
of this corner of London, with the pillared porticos of clubland, and
the gleaming brass plaques of private banks, no doubt witnesses its own
share of deal-making on Africa.
