Object: OT: Austin inches closer...
Excuse me if I drop threads and avoid any discussion that takes any
thought, things are picking up over here. I just made an offer on a small
place outside of Austin on a little wooded lot at the end of a road. Nice,
out of the way place. I could be out of here in a month or less and, boy,
do I have a lot to do to wrap things up here.
Now if the hurricanes will just stay away until late August...

Hey, believe it or not, there was a tornado not too far from where I live
that hit yesterday afternoon. No one was injured, but LOTS of damage.

That's the second one we've had in two and a half weeks.
I live 200 yards from the damage line of the first one, a few miles
south east of Poughkeepsie.
The second one made me miss my plane at JFK for the first time (flying
to my sister's wedding in England). I was driving South on Taconic
State Parkway and there was a thunderstorm that got worse and worse. I
had to stop on the shoulder because I simply couldn't see through the
rain. After it eventually cleared up we had to negotiate the debris.
There was what looked like a large chimney cowl in my lane in front of
me. And by the time I finally got to JFK my flight had closed.
Luckily they rebooked me on another later today so I won't miss it.

When's the house-warming party?

When the Christians arrange for the arsonist.

Not in Austin. It's the only part of Texas I'd even visit.

A Christian outside the city limits then.....

Texas gets such a bad rap. Not entirely justified really. Well, except for

My experience with Texas has been universally bad. Hicks, bigots,
idiots. I hear from people I usually trust that Austin isn't really part
of Texas, and if it weren't for the red neck losers sent there from the
rest of the state to "govern", it wouldn't have anything at all in common
with the rest of Texas.

When you find that *everyone* is a certain way that you dislike, then
typically you need to examine yourself and your own perceptions. I've
lived in Houston my entire life and have been all over Texas without
running into any thing so vile as to make me demonize five million

I'm not a native Texan (but dammit, I got here as fast as I could!), but I've
been in Houston since 1965, and have followed pretty much the same path. (In
33 years as a registered voter in Harris County, I've never voted for a Bush,
either, and I voted for a fellow Texan - Dr. Ron Paul - in 1988. I'm thankful
I never lived in DeLay's district, though.)
