Saddam Hussein 'arrested in Iraq'
Ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been arrested in Iraq,
according to an unconfirmed report.
The former Iraqi leader was detained in his ancestral home town of
Tikrit, the official Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
The US Defence Department said it had no confirmation of the report.
Saddam Hussein is the most wanted man on the list issued by US
authorities but has not been seen since Baghdad fell to US forces in
April.

According to several news sources, Saddam Hussein's capture has been
confirmed. He was captured -- with no shots fired -- by U.S. military
forces outside Tikrit. The erstwhile Iraqi dictator was dirty and
unkempt. Authorities say he had been avoiding capture by moving every
couple of hours.
The impact his capture will have on anti-U.S. sentiment in Iraq is
unclear, although unquestionably it will dampen any remaining enthusiasm
on the part of pro-Saddam forces. Just how it will influence the ongoing
guerilla war being waged against occupation forces remains to be seen.

Most Iraqis want the foreigners out of their country, so the impact is
quite clear. They'll hate us a little more.
