So there!
Yay!
Needed money. So took contract in Aberdeen, where I had a little prior
experience. I was gratified to see they still have the biggest cats in
the world in the factories. I thought my Maine Coon was a big cat....
I was ***wrong***.
Natural selection in action: Every cat we see since 1928 in that place
has an ancestor that succeeded in not being crushed by a machine!
And *they still run* a crane twice the size of your house that moves
one tonne reels of paper about on Windows NT.
Scared the ***** out of me. I mean - it actually looks like it knows
what it's doing...
But alas being in a bed-sit doesn't make for good net comms.
Anyway....
Nice to be back.

I never found out why it's the "Granite City", all I can remember is
concrete

It was built from local granite when stone buildings were fashionable,
but Edinburgh seems to me to be more of a "granite city" than Aberdeen
could be - although I have to confess I've never been to the latter.
It's good to have Therion back, anyway, where*ever* he's been hiding!

What a small world! I was in Aberdeen over Christmas! (Well, Boxing
Day to the 31st anyway.) My brother-in-law is getting his doctorate at
King's College at the University of Aberdeen and we went to stay with
him for the week. (At least my BIL will have EARNED his PhD in
Theology, unlike certain other Usenet posters with doctorates not worth
the paper they're printed on.)
I thought Scotland (what little I saw of it) really beautiful. The
city centre and the harbour and a little of the countryside (Crathes
Castle). Us California people actually got snowed on! (Fun for a day
or two.)
I probably saw you and didn't even realize it. What were you wearing?
Nice to be back.
Nice to have you back.

If God gives me a skeptical nature and you an accepting one, then
you're going to be a believer and I'm not. If belief is a ticket to
eternal happiness, I'm definitely handicapped. God gives me a mind
capable of asking questions and what? I'm damned if I use it?"

It's a very beautiful country. The last time I was back was for three
weeks in '98.
